I have some serious problems with my teeth and I need some advice, I have only 14 teeth in my lower jaw and 13 in the upper one. Almost all these teeth are either broken or decayed. Could you please give me a suggestion of what can be done to get back my smile?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks,

Firstly.. I am terrified of dentists, for a number of reasons.
Most recently I fell out of a 15ft window, landed on my face and now both front teeth are missing.
I stopped eating sweets altogether and anything else I felt could do more harm to my teeth.
Also I had a piercing in my lower lip which has made my gums recede very badly.
As you can imagine all this has put a lot of fear into me… I also suffer quite badly from dreams where all my teeth fall out.
I’m 30 years old and really do not want to put it off any longer.
The problem I have is that the plate with my now 2 front teeth on it seems to do more damage than good.
I desperately want to be able to smile but have got so used to keeping my mouth closed I never do any more.
I have extra money each month as I work 2 jobs, one of them I am in the public eye as a Dj and want to able to look my best.
I am torn as what to do.
In my opinion I need the works, gum work and veneers.
What is the best way to get this sorted. I have extra money but I’m not rich by any means.
Can you help?

Hi Mark,
I am 32 years old andthe dentist I used when I was 13 took the wrong teeth out, I did query this but was advised that when my wisdom teeth grew they would push my bottom teeth forward, this was incorrect.
I now have overcrowded top teeth where a tooth on witherside overlaps my front two teeth and have gaps at the bottom of my mouth, i estimate that a pound coin would easily fit in the gap.
To add to that my bottom teeth front teeth are discolouring with dark brown appearing at the root area.
I have been scared off of dentists for fear of further errors. please can you help ?
Many Thanks
Sarah

Dr Hughes,
Forgive me for the long email but I have a few things I would like to ask. My first thing to explain is that I am a very nervous person when it comes to going to the dentist and due to this I have not been in a long time and have only visited a dentist a few times when needed. My parents never explained to me or kept up with my oral hygiene as a child and to complicate further I had a bad experience early on in life with a Dr who extracted two of my teeth (on my parents orders) and left me in pain for what seemed weeks. I am now 30 years old and I am a semi professional golfer trying to break into the industry at any level, but ideally at a professional teaching standard. Unfortunately the industry is still very fickle and stuffy. I have been for a number of jobs and have never been offered a position despite my achievements. I heard from a friend of mine at one golf club that the person who interviewed me wrote me off within thirty seconds of me introducing myself due to my teeth, apparently the members would’ not take to me’. I get very upset by this and my confidence is at an all time low. Its not just golf, trying to get a girlfriend is a nightmare, I never smile in photos and dodge all customers in my current job. I know my teeth are bad, I have two half missing front teeth and some are out of align, all are discoloured heavily and my back teeth, most of which have cavities, leave me in severe pain most days. I have seen television programs and have heard the quotes some people pay for cosmetic services, they are WAY out of my league for my earnings and the NHS will only offer single tooth cosmetic surgery. I feel I need my whole mouth looking at! I’m at a complete loss as to what to do, I don’t like going to the NHS as I feel they rush procedures and are not willing to take time with nervous patients. I also would like time to be on my side and get my smile back up and running in 4-6 months, if not a lot sooner, so I do not waste my golf career away. Do you have any ideas as to how I can get my smile back to what it should be, whether there is anything you or your colleagues can offer within my price range, or if you know of any NHS Dr s that will provide a good result in a short space of time whilst dealing with my concerns.

Hi Dr. Hughes.
I am 17 years old and have had braces for about a year now. In December (hopefully) I am due to undergo surgery to correct my underbite. They plan to put plates into my top jaw to widen it and therefore bring it in line with my lower jaw which is not being operated on. Although I am fairly confident about the surgery, I have seen some scary pictures statistics and possible risks over the internet which have worried me. Please could you tell me how bad the recovery process will be and what are the risks in the surgery? thank- you

I hate my teeth and I’m very nervous about visiting the dentist. I need to make my teeth look better. I have two protruding front teeth due to gum disease and a lot of loose teeth. I think the solution would be to remove all the loose teeth and have the front two extracted and get a bridge. I reckon I would need around 4-5 teeth on the bridge. I would like to know what the cost would be for the treatment.
