Restorative work and Orthodontics

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
Hello. I am 50 yrs old and was treated for severe periodontitis in Feb 2008. I already have overcrowded teeth and they are now protruding because of drifting. In addition I was told I suffer from bruxism. I have always had dental checkups and been assured “everything was ok” in spite of complaing about recession around a crown an pain on biting. I am destroyed by how my teeth now look and am suffering panic attacks and depression. All this was a huge shock as I had no idea. I want some restorative work, but my new dentist has suggested I think about orthodontics instead. I’m not sure the teeth will have a good appearance even if I endure it as they are now yellowing with large gaps. I have nearly sent myself mad looking at solutions on the web and am terrified of choosing the wrong dentist after a catalogue of poor treatment in the past and also am not in a postion to pay a colossal amount of money. Am I doomed to dentures? Thank you.

My wisdom tooth has horizontally impacted my molar

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
My lower left wisdom tooth is horizontally impacted. Now the molar next to it (2nd) I think is swollen. I think this has something to do with my wisdom tooth. The 2nd molar is elevated, it appears to be higher than the rest of my lower teeth. It’s not really painful unless I accidentally close my jaw. The pain is quite intense that when this happens while I’m sleeping, I just can’t help but wake up. My dentist told me to take amoxicillin during the first week but it didn’t do anything for my 2nd molar. I’m now on my 4th day on Ciprofloxacin, and I don’t think it’s working either. I had this sore tooth for more than 2 weeks now, and I’m losing weight because I am unable to eat solid food. I need an expert advice on how to tackle this problem of mine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Sir I am bery self-conscious about my smile so I have decided to go for cosmetic dentistry. I had a brace when i was younger but it appears my teeth have re-lapsed and moved backwards over the years. I have quite a narrow smile which shows 6 teeth. I would like a wider smile with straight teeth would invisalign solve this problem? Any feedback would be grately appreciated. Kind regards

My two front teeth are curved, as a result of tongue & thumb sucking. What procedure would you recommend for this to be rectified? Also, could you recommend a dentist who could give me the necessary treatment please? Thanks.

ive been wearing braces since I was 17

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I’m 19 and have been wearing braces since i was 17.i used to have overbite over 5mm before wearing braces and it has reduced to 5mm. My orthodontist recommended me to wear the head gear, which i did but not for 12 hrs everyday as required. I didn’t wear it continuously because i was always out of home everyday, and only able to wear it few hours during sleep. I’ve stopped wearing the head gear for a few months now, and wish not to wear it again. My teeth are now straight but i still have the overbite. I’m not regretting because of not wearing the head gear, as it was very uncomfortable, but it is better the wear invisalign which i wish to wear. Is it possible for me to wear invisalign once my braces are removed?

the orthodontist told me I need oral surgery

Saturday, March 14th, 2009
Q.
Hi, i had an underbite initially and the orthodontist i went to advise me that i would need oral surgery(upper jaw) as well as braces. the orthodontist gave me the option to have surgery or to have braces first to see if braces alone can resolve the problem. when i was 16 my braces came off and my teeth and bite was perfect so no need for surgery. however i am now 23 and i have a slight open-bite (0.5mm). can this be fixed with braces? my old orthodontist said no as its due to growth and i would need surgery, however another orthodontist advised me that he can fix this with invisalign. can you please advise me on what is actually true?

My two front teeth protrude ever so slightly

Thursday, March 12th, 2009
Q.
Hi My two front teeth protrude ever so slightly, but it has always bothered me. I declined braces when I was younger because I was too afraid to have any teeth out to accommodate the change. The tooth next to my front tooth has started moving closer to my front tooth, causing it to over-lap it slightly pushing the front one in a tiny bit. I have never been able to bite anything thin with my front teeth, as they don’t touch the bottom teeth at all. I would like to correct the problem, but my immobilizing fear of extraction still remains. Is there anyway I can realign my teeth without having any extracted? Many thanks
