My wisdom tooth has horizontally impacted my molar

Q. My lower left wisdom tooth is horizontally impacted. Now the molar next to it (2nd) I think is swollen. I think this has something to do with my wisdom tooth. The 2nd molar is elevated, it appears to be higher than the rest of my lower teeth. It’s not really painful unless I accidentally close my jaw. The pain is quite intense that when this happens while I’m sleeping, I just can’t help but wake up. My dentist told me to take amoxicillin during the first week but it didn’t do anything for my 2nd molar. I’m now on my 4th day on Ciprofloxacin, and I don’t think it’s working either. I had this sore tooth for more than 2 weeks now, and I’m losing weight because I am unable to eat solid food. I need an expert advice on how to tackle this problem of mine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A. Hi ,
i would ask for a oral surgery removal of the wisdom if your dentist can prove there is a secondary infection due to the wisdom tooth.
if the proud tooth is heavily filled get your dentist to rule out the need for root canal treatment
metronidazole is the antibiotic of choice for wisdom tooth infections

Im a patient suffering from TMD currently living in Indiaand I am ready to come to U.K for a long treatment. I satrted suffering from TMD only after my impacted wisdom teeth started to get out. I had symptoms like ear congestion and spams in facial muscles. Both sysmptoms were extremely new to me. For ayear I went from one doctor to another misdiagnosed then I heard of nm dentistry I started treatment with a nmdentist in my city one of the very few in India. He gave me a splint my ears symptoms went away within a week but Istarted getting neck and back problems. He gave me a new splint the neck and back problems eased up but have not gone completely. I went to another nmdentist and he told me that the presence of impacted wisom teeth it self may be the trigger points for my sysmptoms and that I should remove all of my four wisdom teeth I asked about this to many normal dentists and I foundthat 50% agree with it and 50% dont agree with this. I am an engineer and Ihave read so much about nm dentistry that my engineering principles applyto this philosophy. So I have analysed my problem purely by engg logic nota medical one. According to me the problem is that my impacted wisdom teethon the lower right side has come out partially and pushed my other posterior teeth forward and my wisdom teeth on left lower side has still not comelying horizontally completely under the gums out so my last posterior teethkeeping my other molars on this side in their original position. SO when the position of my teeth on the left and right side is not the same how canthe position of my two jaw joints will be the same causing misalignment. Sojust removing the wisdom teeth is not going to reverse the case I need orthodontics or tooth restructuring. Currently Im under going orthotic treatment. But I feel orthodontics is a better option for me because of the following. As you know in orthotics basically the original rest position is not aimed but forgetting the past a new computed rest position is derived and byincreasing the height of the posteriors it is maintained. In my case it isvery simple(mostly simple things are difficult to concieve but once detected you are through.) I think if I only remove my wisdom teeth(on the rightlower side) that has moved my other teeth forward and keep my other molarsintact for the moment and with neuromuscular orthodontics I can bring my shifted teeth back to their preimpacted location then problem will get solved. AND I TRUELY BELIVEV THAT THIS WILL BRING THE NATURAL REST POSITION BACKinstead as in orthotic treatment increasing the height of the posteriors will place my jaw in an artificial rest position. As in one of the cases thatI read the doctor first gave the patient an orthotic to keep the jaw in the rest position and in the mean time applied orthodontics to correct the occlusion. So can i do the same. And then if needed I can go for extractionof my other wisdom teeth as well. Please tell if you agree with this and how can i start the treatment.

The pain occured a couple of days ago and beats any broken bone i’ve had. I don’t think there is an infectionbut hey even quoting mandible is outside of my skill set Problem is i flewback to Norway last night for work and won’t get back to the Uk for a couple of weeks, so i am looking for your advice on how best to proceed

I would like to enquire whether there is any dental surgeon in your clinique that deals with removal of impacted wisdom tooth which unfortunatelly started to rot. If yes, could you please advise how much does this cost and when it is possble to have the treatment? If no, I’d also appreciate your advise about the other solutions (healing the teeth/temporary filling solution as I need to remove this anyway). I’d greatly appreciate your prompt advise. Best regards

My question is regarding my husband who has had his upper right widsom tooth removed about 2 months ago and now he can’t open his mouth all the way, he is unable to open his mouth to even eat a hamburger, or a large sandwich, our regular dentist isn’t really giving us a reason for this, so we have decided to go to another oral surgeon. His mouth actually hurts him when he tries to open it all the way. I would be very thankful if you could give me any more information. It would be appreciated. Thank You

Hello How frustrating for your husband! It’s great that you are booked in to see an Oral Surgeon as this would be my advice to you. There is a number of reasons why he may not be able to open his mouth fully and without seeing him I couldn’t tell you I’m sorry. I hope the Oral Surgeon solves this mystery for your husband so he can start to eat comfortably again.
