I have crooked and mishapen teeth, especially my top six front teeth. I’m trying to decide between lumineers, invisalign, and inman aligners. I’m 18 years old and live in the USA. I’m also a student in college. Cost and time have a big difference in my decision. What information can you give me to help me make my final choice?

Concerns over jaw re-positioning

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009
Q.
Why do I have a weird profile? I wore braces on my lower set of teeth to correct overcrowding and had a central incisor removed to make room. The orthodontist didn’t put braces on top set even though the the tooth front teeth at the top were slightly bucked, they were pretty much perfectly straight. Now after having my braces removed I have pretty much got pefect teeth even though one has shifted back into it’s original position. My main concern is my profile from the side my chin smooths into my neck and I have a worse overbite my bottom and top set don’t line up when I look from the side the top teeth overlap the bottom ones

Q.
I have an overbite and want to know how to correct the problem without braces. I wore braces back in 2001 thru 2003 and now I have a terrible overbite that has changed my total appearance. I was thinking maybe veneers? Can you give a response to this problem, Doc…Thanks…

Options for straight beautiful teeth for the older people

Sunday, September 20th, 2009
Q.
I am 61 years old and as seems to be with many older people I have considerable movement of my lower teeth resulting in them bunching in the front. My upper teeth now also appear to be moving and I would like to have them corrected. Is this possible? I should say I enjoy good health both orally and physically and participate in regular excercise and have never smoked. I visit the dentist for check ups regularly but have been told I am too old to bother with this. Your opinion would be appreciated.

i have protruding teeth how can i get them aligned?

Monday, September 14th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Caplan, I sent a question about 3 weeks ago and haven’t seen a reply yet so I’m not sure if you received e-mail – apologies if you have received it twice. I am 48 years old and I lost one of my front teeth when I was about 13 years old, I had a fall and the dentist removed the broken tooth and fitted a false one on a pallet which I hated. About 17 years ago I had a bridge fitted which now needs attention as it is starting to wear badly. However my problem is that I have protruding front teeth that I would dearly love to have straightened (they are not so bad and they are not crooked in any way – I think the problem was caused with me having a dummy as a child) Am I right in thinking I cannot have an invisible brace fitted when I have a bridge? If not, what do you think my best option would be where I could have an invisible brace fitted? Can I have the bridge removed and have an implant fitted and a brace fitted then? I do hope you can help me – despite my age, my confidence is rock bottom because of this problem and I don’t want to waste anyone’s time by making an appointment. Many thanks in advance. Many thanks

Are maryland bridges the best option to hide indent in gums?

Monday, September 14th, 2009
Q.
Thank you for answering my previous question about my 13 year old daughter and the best age for an implant. Since we will be going with a Maryland Bridge until she is 19 and can’t do a bone graft until then, is there anything that can be done to build up the very noticeable indent in her gums above the missing tooth. When she laughs it is extremely noticeable. Since she is only 13 it doesn’t bother her right now but as she gets older say 15 or 16 she will have a problem with it. I wish I had been told by the orthodontist that this indent could have been a possibility when there is a missing adult tooth. We would have waited to start the second phase to open the space until she was 16 or 17 so she could have gone straight to the implant and bone graft after the braces. Please let me know if this would have been a possibility which would have saved us a lot of grief and expense? Thanks.
