My tooth are moving forward advice whether to wear an Invisalign braces and a retainer

Sunday, June 14th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr I recently went for a check up at my dentist as I was concerned that my teeth were moving forward due to my wisdom teeth being slightly impacted. I have in the past been to an Orthadontic hopital were they have carried out x-rays and concluded that they would not remove my wisdom as they are too close to the nerves. Therefore when I went for my recent check up I was keen to hear what the dentist would say about the movement of my teeth as they seem to get worse as time goes by. The dentist told me that the reason my teeth are moving is nothing to do with my wisdom teeth but is in fact caused by the contracting of my jaw muscle, which push the teeth forward. She also imformed me that this would get worse as time passed and that the only way to rectify it would be to have a brace, however the teeth could, once the brace is removed, move again! I have seen all the recent publicity of Invisalign and wonder if I was to go ahead and order Invisalign braces, would I, once these have been removed, need to wear a permanent retainer? And if so, would this be for the foreseeable future? Your advice is much appreciated. Many thanks

my 14 year old daughter has an overbite would you advise jaw realignment surgery

Saturday, June 6th, 2009
Q.
My 14 year old daughter has just been told that she will need jaw realignment surgery, as the hape of her face will not enable her to have normal braces. her overbite is such that she can insert her finger between lower and upper teeth. she has inherited her dad’s massive nose, which is prominent and makes her embarrased and shy. she has difficulties eating and she dribbles as she cant close her mouth properly. i know without looking it is hard to make an assessment, but would you advise surgery?

Would it be possible to lengthen my top teeth and widen the appearance of my upper jaw

Friday, June 5th, 2009
Q.
I used to have an underbite, however, followinglower maxiofacial surgery, that was corrected. My upper jaw is still relatively smallin comparision, and my bite is close. When I smile I show alot of my bottom teeth, including gum exposure. They have slight crowding also. Would it be possible to lengthen my top teeth and widen the appearence of my upper jaw with minimal invasion? also what can be done for my bottom jaw, I had fixed braces to relign before and they’ve moved bak to their overcrowded position. I do find it distressing as I’m getting married in August and have had treatment since iwas 11 but it’s still not right or a normal smile.

I have a traumatic jaw what are my option other than having a surgery or straightening my teeth

Thursday, June 4th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I was told by my orthodontist that I have a traumatic jaw and she advised two options – one was to go through an operation involving jaw reconstruction and then braces for a year or second option to have two teeth removed on either side and have braces for two years which would result in 60-70% accuracy of teeth alignment. I have an under bite. Quite frankly, I don’t fancy either of these so could there be an alternative to acquiring straight jaw line and teeth alignment within a short scale of time? Thanking you in anticipation.

my daughter is in jaw pain so she can not close her jaw completely what would be the reason

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
Q.
My 25 year old daughter has been having bouts of jaw pain ever since she had her braces removed about three years ago. The pain can become so severe it goes into her neck. She is unable to close her jaw completely so that her back teeth touch and her jaw clicks. Her orthodontist didn’t say anything about any jaw problems when her braces were put on. Any ideas on what could be wrong and what she can do to alleviate her pain.
