my 14 year old daughter has an overbite would you advise jaw realignment surgery

Q. My 14 year old daughter has just been told that she will need jaw realignment surgery, as the hape of her face will not enable her to have normal braces. her overbite is such that she can insert her finger between lower and upper teeth. she has inherited her dad’s massive nose, which is prominent and makes her embarrased and shy. she has difficulties eating and she dribbles as she cant close her mouth properly. i know without looking it is hard to make an assessment, but would you advise surgery?

A.

The description of a severe misalignment of the lower to upper jawbone would make a surgical option a consideration.

i’m 16 and i have an overbite too, mine isn’t as severe but i am very self-consious about it. People say it isn’t that bad and they can’t notice but i do all the time, especially at certain angles and in photos.
whats the recovery like for the operation? and how risky is it?

Hi, I am 16 years old and I am due to get major jaw surgery done to my overbite when I have completly stop growing at the age of 17. Also like amber I am very self consious about my bite in the way that I eat meat and I have bad speech inpediment with with my S’s. ould I need braces for my surgery because what I have heard from my orthodontist is that they would be wiring my teeth together for amount of weeks.
Thanks 🙂

My 15 year old son has had braces fitted to his teeth. First the top and more recently to the bottom. He has now worn them for some 6 months. I am concerned because his face shape and jawline/shape have altered. His bottom jaw appears, especially when eating, to protrude out from his top. I have mentioned this twice to his dentist, the last time being this morning. She is very uninformative and I don’t get a straight answer. She said that he is now eating that way because of the braces and that it may go back to normal or it may not. He may also she said, get into the habit of eating like that. This was totally off hand and I am worried that it will be permanent and if he would be better off getting rid of the braces now before it gets any worse.

I’m not sure why this has happened but if your uncertain perhaps a 2nd opinion from another orthodontsit might put your mind at rest
