I have a traumatic jaw what are my option other than having a surgery or straightening my teeth

Q. Hi, I was told by my orthodontist that I have a traumatic jaw and she advised two options – one was to go through an operation involving jaw reconstruction and then braces for a year or second option to have two teeth removed on either side and have braces for two years which would result in 60-70% accuracy of teeth alignment. I have an under bite. Quite frankly, I don’t fancy either of these so could there be an alternative to acquiring straight jaw line and teeth alignment within a short scale of time? Thanking you in anticipation.

A. It is difficult to advise you without seeing but if you want the best final outcome surgery is the best way.  You appear to have a problem with the position of your jaws, braces can only straighten your teeth and the surgery is needed to alter the jaw positions.  If you feel you only want straighter teeth you can do that provided you are aware of the limitations.
