Q.
Hi I am 24 and I am wondering if you can offer me some advice. I have a deep overbite and crowding of my lower teeth. My dentist said it is routine orthondonics and shouldn’t cost more than £3000 or under. She referred me to Birmingham dental hospital and I had an appointment there and was told the problem is not severe enough to get treatment under nhs. He also assured me it wouldn’t be too costly for private treatment. I had a consultation today at a Birmingham clinic and was told I am looking at at least £4500 and that it is very complex, she wanted to move my top teeth back to fix my overbite which I thought was quite strange as my bottom jaw needs moving out. My jaw clicks when I speak and eat and I constantly aches as I cannot close my mouth properly, I cannot afford £4500 and can’t believe this was not picked up on when I was a teenager. Do you know of anywhere that will treat me on nhs and is £4500 really, realistic? I have heard of people receiving treatment on the nhs when jaw surgery is needed.
