I had veneers placed on my top six teeth two years ago

Q. I had veneers placed on my top six teeth two years ago. They were fine for the first year but since then my gums have been pulling away from the edges of them. I have no gum disease and they do not bleed. My dentist used a special tool to ensure that edges of my veneers were not rough and irritating my gums but this hasn’t made any difference. The gum between my right front tooth and the tooth next to it has the worst recession and I can see the edge of the veneer. It also makes it look like the veneer on the tooth next to my front tooth is sticking out alot. What can I do about my gums? and would you recommend that I have a larger veneer placed on the tooth with the biggest gap? I also have stains along the gum line of my veneers. They are an unattractive yellow colour – I am seeing my dentist next month, will he be able to remove these stains? if not what do I do?

A. Hi many thanks for your enquiry, the first thing that needs to be investigated is why your gums are receeding so quickly. once your gum condition is stabilised then discussing the replacement of the veneers can proceed. hope this is helpful.

Hi, I have currently been receiveing peridontal work on gum disease. As you can imagine this has now left me with receeding gums to which im finding very difficult to deal with as this is making me very concious of smiling and talking. Is there some way of reducing to gaps between the tooth and gum? Any signs of making this problem a little bettter would be a big boost for my self confidence.

Thanks
Emma

Hi there, I would like to make an enquiry into possible treatments available. I had a problem of overcrowding in younger years, I’m now 31, and due to this some teeth have been removed and I now have a gap at the front, withone tooth looking very pointed and sharp due to being forced to turn around. I find my own dentist unhelpful and would really like to ask some advice. I have been told told I have the onset of gum disease, and no matter howoften I brush I always seem to have a a line of plaque attached to the bottom of the teeth, mainly at the back of the teeth, but also attaching to thefront which builds up and I find very hard to control. I would like to look into teeth whitening and perhaps veneers, but am unsure of what to do next. If someone could offer advice on the price of consultations and possibletreatments I would I would be grateful. Many thanks

I’ve had veneers fitted to my front two teeth, i am assuming they are porcelain veneers. they were fitted about a year ago. It was through the NHS. The veneers were very large and was “shaven” a little after they were fitted. Having no problem (no sensitivity etc, however, it just did not look right as they stuck out but dentist assured me i just had to get used to it) i went abroad after 6 months, i was there just a few weeks and to my horror, one veneer fell off. When i saw my own tooth, one of the two that the NHS Dentist had re-shaped in order to fit the veneer, i was horrified as he had shaved most my tooth, a healthy tooth, destroying the enamel. I went to a Dentist (whilst abroad) to have it glued back on. She glued them back and had told me it was very poorly done and she could remove them and fit crowns. I was not sure so i did not do anything, just had it glued on. She did however shave a little at the back as she said the reason it fell off was because of my bite and the veneer should have been shaven a little at the back. Now, being back in the UK i still haven’t had the courage to confront my dentist. months have gone by and now i have inflamed gums, especially around the veneers. Please advise me. I am not sure what to do. Please help. Thank you
