Hi I have been treated over the past 12 /18 months for gum disease

Q. Hi I have been treated over the past 12 /18 months for gum disease, my dentist is very happy with my progress and my hygiene routine has stabalised my condition. However I am very unhappy with my smile with my front tooth overlapping due to movement and my gums have begun to recede although hopefully this is now under control (I am 36). I would love to restore my confidence in my smile as I am currently very self conscious, my budget is limited perhaps teeth whitening could help? But I don’t know which method would be best, can you help? Kind regards

A. I am glad you have managed to stabilise your gum disease.  Please remeber that thsi is an on going battle and you need to see the hygienist on a regular basis – my periodontal patients see my hygienist 3 monthly for maintenance to reduce the risk of the disease reoccuring.  Tooth whitening will improve the colout of your teeth .  It mainly whitens the enamel so do not expect great improvement of your exposed roots.  You may find the process increaes sensitivity due to your exposed roots.  i would advise the lowest concentration possible which is usually a home bleaching system.
