What kind of treatments can I have to address my receding gums and gaps?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
I am 39 and 6 years ago I was told I had gum disease & 1mm of horizontal bone loss. since then I have followed a strict oral hygiene regime and thankfully my problem is very much under control. The problem is I have been left with receding gums and I am absolutely at my wits end! I have no confidence & certainly don’t feel like smiling. I thought of veneers to maybe close up the gaps? but having read your web page, has there been recent success with the graft? Please help,

I recently visited my dentists about Inman aligners, but she said I could’ve have them due to gum disease. Is there any way around this?

Monday, August 23rd, 2010
Q.
I recently visited a dentist about the Iman aligner as i have a large gap between my two front top teeth. She stated that I had gum diseases and I would not be able to have the braces until I have several cleaning /treatment. I do not feel that my teeth are as bad and I am very disappointed. Is there any other way around this and can I have any other type of braces. I was hoping i would be able to have the braces and treat the gum silmultaneously. My gums feel and look fine and they are not swollen. Please let me know if it is still possible to get the braces. Thank you.,

Is it normal for a person to stop smoking and have their gums bleed more than before?

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010
Q.
I recently quit smoking and am noticing that my gums are becoming really pink where they use to be pale…I am assuming that is a good thing. My question is, is it normal for a person to stop smoking and have their gums bleed more than before, i didn’t have a problem with gums bleeding till I stopped smoking. Thank you,

Can you advise me about my bleeding gums, as I have tried everything?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
Hi, Please can you advise me on my options as I suffer from bleeding gums and I have tried everything from seeing the hygienist regularly, daily flossing, using a waterpik and most herbal products on the market including Oram d but nothing has stopped the bleeding. I have had exrays by 3 different dentist and they say I just need to keep up what I am doing but the bleeding won’t stop. Do you think I should consider gum surgery as my gums are not pink, in some places they are more of a purple colour. I am desperate to sort this problem out. Please can you advise me on my options. Do you think I should see a periodontist? I cannot find any in my area! Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

Is what I’ve been quoted too expensive for the bridge?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I have been quoted £1,840 for aporcelain bonded bridge fit to LL4-LL7, one lower tooth is missing. This seems a lot of money, I have been quoted £198 at my nhs dentist but they was not keen to do it as i have gum disease. This is under control and I see my hygeinist every 3 month and do homecare. Do you think this seems excessive and what would I be getting for that type of money compared to the nhs. thank you,
