My Periodontal Disease Is Now Under Control. Which Treatment Will Make The Large Black Triangles Less Apparent?

Tuesday, July 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I have black triangles across my front upper teeth (incisors/canines) due to periodontal bone loss, some of them are large and noticeable when I smile. My periodontal disease is now being treated and is currently stable. Is cosmetic bonding a possible solution for making these black triangles less apparent? Are there any other methods for filling black triangles? Is there anything that can be done? Thank you for your time.

Hello. I Would Like To Have Treatment For Hypermobile Lip. Could You Help Me Find Someone?

Thursday, June 12th, 2014
Q.

Hello. I hope you can help me Dr Hughes. I would like to have treatment for hypermobile lip. It is something that has bothered me for a long while.
When I smile or laugh, around 8mm of my gum is exposed. I asked my dentist but said he couldn’t really help as gum contouring would probably not reduce my gum enough. I’ve tried botox injections but they didn’t work either.
I’m having trouble trying to find a surgeon or someone who would perform this sort of treatment.
I am happy to travel to London, Birmingham, Manchester etc, Can you help?
Thank you for your time.

I Don’t Like My High Lip-line! What Can Be Done? Does This Come Under Gum Contouring?

Friday, March 14th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I don’t like my high lip-line! It seems I have little control when I really laugh, even though my lips are quite big when settled/relaxed. What can be done? Does it come under gum contouring? Also, my front two teeth are long (like a chipmunk!) My dentist suggested getting a brace but I’m still thinking as it’s a lot of money and I’m not sure that a brace would change the shape of the teeth? They are naturally set longer than the others, not protruding though, and not crooked. Thank you for your time.

I’m 15 And Hate My Gums But I Also Hate The Dentist, What Can I Do To Improve Their Appearance?

Thursday, June 27th, 2013
Q.

Hi! I was wondering if you could just provide me with a small bit of advice? I have a very gummy smile and I think that gum contouring would be perfect for me. I have a problem though, i hate the dentist I feel physically sick when going to the dentist. I have hated it for years and this is the only thing that is stoping me from thinking about this option. Would it be possible for me to have a general anaesthetic I’m hospital for the surgery?? I’m only 15 and would it still be possible for me to have it or would I have to be over a certain age.Thank you for your help!

Can I have my crowns replaced and receive gum contouring in one sitting?

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Patel, my two front teeth are crowned. The crowns are old now and on one of them the metal is showing on the gum line. I would like to have these replaced with all ceramic crowns. My gum line is not symmetrical above these two teeth and I think the eventual result would be better if the gum was contoured. My question is, can all this treatment be carried out at the same time or do you have to wait some time after gum contouring. I am not keen on the idea of waiting as I think the look would be unsightly and the way my teeth look now is already getting me down. Many thanks for your time.

My gum covers a large proportion of my front tooth, what should I do?

Thursday, October 6th, 2011
Q.

I have Gintivitis at the front of my teeth. Its a large prutruding gum that almost covers my front tooth and i have a very large gap. I dont know what to or where to go for help. its really stressing me as i’ve never been able to smile and i need to. I’ve had this horrible gum since i was a child, and I’ve never onced smiled because i cant and it looks ugly like a piece of chewing gum! I find it hard sometimes to cope with promblem even more when I go in public as people always assume that I’m moody or sad and its annoying all the time. I’ve been searching the net hoping for some answers, you may not be able to help me but I thought I’ll ask as i’m very desperate to smile. it hurts that I cant and i’m afraid that i may never be able to do the one thing thats suppose to come natural to us all. i would be greatful if you could help me or guide me on my next step. Thank you very much for taking time to read my question, I hope to hear from you very soon.

I live in Spain, but am I able to receive cosmetic treatments in the UK?

Thursday, July 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi mark!

I’m from Spain and got 6 veneers a year ago. I’m not very satisfied: they fall off very often and the appearance is not as fantastic as I though it would be.

I also have a gummy smile so my gums were lifted and now they look less rounded that what I would like.

Moreover, I would like to treat my hipermobile upper lip (in Spain the treatment is orthognathic surgery which is too agressive).

I would like to repeat the treatment again and after a long search, I would like to become your patient.

My question is if I need to proceed as a regular UK patient (book an appointment, then another, then another…) or if we could arrange a complete program of my treatment from here (duration and travel times, costs, etc). I can provide before/after pics and x-rays.

Thanks.

Can my gums be reshaped after I have received my dental implants?

Monday, July 11th, 2011
Q.

Hi, I have had tatum implant surgery for two missing teeth. Both gaps are at the top front row and I am due to have the abutments fitted ready for crowns. Where the implants have been fixed into position my gum line has taken it’s own form and shape. Once the crowns are fitted I will be left with gaps where the gum once naturally protruded into a point between each tooth. My question is, can gum be taken from other arears of the gum and applied to existing gum so it acts as a filler then reshapen in order to create a better visual apperance to both the tooth and gum line?
