I Don’t Like My High Lip-line! What Can Be Done? Does This Come Under Gum Contouring?

Q.
Hi Mark. I don’t like my high lip-line! It seems I have little control when I really laugh, even though my lips are quite big when settled/relaxed. What can be done? Does it come under gum contouring? Also, my front two teeth are long (like a chipmunk!) My dentist suggested getting a brace but I’m still thinking as it’s a lot of money and I’m not sure that a brace would change the shape of the teeth? They are naturally set longer than the others, not protruding though, and not crooked. Thank you for your time.

There are many ways to help correct a gummy smile:

-jaw surgery
-orthodontics
-gum lift (laser or bone removal surgery)
-botox
-lip surgery
-lip fillers
-shortening of the teeth
-veneering of the teeth.  Sometimes all 5 are needed, depending on the severity of your case or the diagnosis/reason behind the problem. It’s best to get a cosmetic dentist who is very experienced in gummy smile treatment to assess you properly for the best advice. We treat lots of this in my Harley Street practice so come and see us if that is convenient for you. Kind Regards,  Mark.
