My 6 yr old daughter has a swollen gums due to silver caps on them can anything be done?

Monday, June 29th, 2009
Q.
My 6 year old daughter with special needs was put under for dental treatment. She came out of surgery with her 4 front teeth (2 top and 2 bottom) pulled and all her other teeth had silver caps on them. Her gums have been swollen since. The dentist told me brushing them will help correct the swelling??? Months later, still swollen and she seems in pain. She screams when I brush. Again, dentist said to come back in 6 months. Finally able to find new dentist who told me the caps are too big for her teeth and have caused gingervitis. Her gums look raw and because she is adopted and on medicaid, I feel like I can not get decent help for her. The new dentist claims there is nothing that can be done since the caps are permanant. Isn’t there something I can do for this poor child. She has special needs so I must brush for her and she can’t communicate if she is in pain but her screaming tells me she is. She is constantly poking at her mouth and rubbing her face so I know it bothers her. A year has already gone by from surgery and gums still swollen. I have seen 3 dentists now and no one seems to think they can do anything? Is it because of her insurance?? Or is there no hope for her situation and do we need to just wait for her baby teeth to fall out? I feel so sorry for her and do not want her uncomfortable any longer.

I had dental implant and my dentist is asking me to whiten my teeth before having crown advice?

Sunday, June 28th, 2009
Q.
I have had 2 dental implants on my front top jaw and two porcelain crowns have been made but not fitted yet. I am wearing temporary crowns. My dentist is asking me to whiten my teeth before the porcelain crowns are fitted.I guess the reason for this is the shade of the crowns she had chosen are not blending with the rest of my teeth.I have enamel hypoplasia and very sensitive teeth and I am not keen to have my teeth bleached.Should my dentist get her technician to make new porcelain crowns to blend in with my teeth.I am nervous about having my teeth whiten and any side effects that may occur.I have had a lot of antibiotics in the past and perhaps that has an implication on the colour of my teeth and also it may be genetic as I am Chinese.I also feel that the whitening may not as effective on me.What should I do ?I would be grateful if you can reply as soon as possible. Thank you.

Q.
I had a crown put on a tooth of mine. When my crown came in I was called yo the office to have it attached. It was to long so she remove it and took a drill and shorter so my bite could be even. While doing this I heard her say something to her assittant. When she put it back on it didn’t shap in place but she used it anyway!! then she whet about bonding it better be doing something like filling a cavity. Is this the right thing to do? Now it has broken off and she has moved to a different office. and she told me at the time that a cap is not garinteed. Did I get taken adventage of her? I do not have insureance for Dental. Did I get robed. and should I get it recaped. Thank You

Im 42 and is it possible to have my bottom teeth moved back little before i have a new crown

Friday, June 26th, 2009
Q.
I am a 42yrs old male, and i have had my four upper front teeth crowned for many years now, and they are about due for replacing. However, because my bottom teeth protrude slightly, this causes the upper crowns to do the same. Is it possible to have my bottom teeth moved back a little before i have the new crowns fitted? and if so, What would the procedure be and how long would this usually take? Thanks!

The corner of one of my teeth has broken off should i have bonding or crown

Monday, June 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi. Please can you advise me on whether I should have a crown or try bonding first… The corner of one of my teeth has broken off – it is on the bottom set, the second double tooth from back (I only have 4 double teeth each side). I had a lot of pain eating on it and my dentist presumed there was a crack but couldn’t find it, so replaced my filling in the hope it would help. Two weeks later part of it has fallen off. I have been given the option of having the corner rebuilt (with same material as used for fillings I think), but dentist cannot determine how strong this would be and whether it would last as these are my main chewing teeth. The price for that would be around £100, or he has suggested a porcelain crown at £500. (I would not consider the gold option as it would be visible). Obviously that is a lot of money which I don’t really want to spend. Would you advise me to try the bonding first or just go straight for the crown? with thanks
