My new crown from NHS for my front tooth doesnt match the colour with rest can u advice

Saturday, July 4th, 2009
Q.
Hello,I would be grateful for a bit of advice on a recent nhs crown I have had fitted. My front tooth completely broke off to the gum and I have had a crown fitted. The concerns i have are 1, I am worried about the stability of the tooth as the front teeth do a lot of work, I say its a crown but there was no visable tooth to attatch it to outside the gum and 2 she said it is a porcalain crown but it looks very opaque and is slightly more yellow than my own tooth. She didnt consult with me about the colour and did not show me the finished job so I payed and left.Because it is an nhs job I dont know where I stand. I payed a £170 for the treatment which is a lot of money for me.Incidently the original tooth had an nhs crown which lasted 23 years and was a much better match. I would be grateful for any advise, many thanks

My 20 yr old crown needed to be removed for root canal should i now go for implant or bridge

Saturday, July 4th, 2009
Q.
I have had tenderness and at time pain from a molar crown. The crown was on for about 20 years and was checked regularly during check-ups. Recently the pain was so bad I went in and the dentist said I needed a root canal, but he wanted to remove the crown because there was a dark shadow under it. It was there in last years x-rays, but he thought it had changed and since I was in pain wanted to take off the crown first. I had leak under the crown that was undetected, when the crown came off, my build up came out also, so he had a clear site of the decay and cleaned it out, touched on my roots to decrease pain and filled it teporarily with fillament. He advised me to get an implant. He did say my bone is fine and the toothed looked good, but the backside were the decay was is thin. I don’t want a bridge or an implant, I want the tooth saved. I know it may not last as long, but my insurance will cover more of a root canal than an implant and I’m scared. Should I do this?, get a second opinion?, find someone who would be willing to rebuild it?Help?

My teeth are weak is there any thing i can do to get good teeth with out having dentures?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009
Q.
I was wondering if there was anything more permanent that veneers and something that covers the whole of the tooth. Basically my mouth is a mess, my teeth have always been weak my first filling was at the age of 5 on my milk teeth and every other time I went to the dentist I would always end up with a filling, I didn’t eat sweets or drink carbonated drinks until I was 15 due to allergies. Since the age of 17 I have only seen the dentist 3 times I am now 27 the last time was for extensive work but that was 2 years ago, and my teeth are weak and I know I’m going to need more fillings. Is their any thing I can do to get good teeth with out ripping the whole lot out and getting dentures? I am so self-conscious of it that I hate smiling and hate having my picture taken. Please help!!

Ive five tooth bridge fitted but one of my crowns wasnt fitted snuggly into the gum can u advice?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr i recently had a five tooth bridge fitted, two of the teeth are false, three are abutments. I was pleased with the overall appearance of the bridge, however a couple of days later, i noticed one of the crowns wasn’t fitted snuggly into the gum line as the other two, i even saw a small gap, i revisted the dentist who fitted bridge and he said it looked fine to him and being he has 46 years experience in dentistry and a good rep, i decided not to pursue my concern any further. However, a few weeks on i was still seeing the gap, and food fragments were dissappearing under the gum line, and reappearing the next day along with saliva, lastly, today i found the gap although still looking small, has dropped down enough for me to actually place a finger nail over the top of the crown.I plan to revisit the dentist and tell him all what i’ve told you, my question is, would any reputable dentist ignore this situation? yours sincerely

Ive a broken crown and my dentist say i need a bone graft and a dental implant is it normal?

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi I had a root canal less than 2 years ago and the crown broke last week. I went to a different dentist as I had moved out of town. He ex-rayed my tooth and told me that I should have a bone graft and a dental implant. I was reading this site regarding implants and am wondering now if he could tell that I need a bone graft by my ex-ray. I have no pain because the original treatment was for a root canal. I am going to do the implant, however am wondering if he could assess the need for the bone graft prior to the surgery. Also, what is the down time normally associated with this procedure?
