my bottom tooth will be hitting against my implant

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
I went to dentist to get an implant on tooth No.7. He previously did a bone augmentation but when he opened the gum he said there was not enough bone to do the implant. He went in there and put some more now I have to wait another 4 months. He also says my bottom tooth will be hitting against my implant in the future cause bottom tooth is crooked and sticks out. He suggest I get a crown but I don’t want them to file down my good teeth. He thinks I may damage the implant ina the future. What should I do??? Thanks.

My new crown, looks great but I can’t eat on it, so sensitive when I try to chew or bite into anything, the pain is so severe it’s unbearable

Q.
I have got clearstep braces which is costing quite a bit but because of this treatment I need to stay with the dentist I have however before my braces I had to undergo other necessary work, ie fillings in two back lower teeth and a crown on another back lower tooth which he claimed needed redoing. My new crown, looks great but I can’t eat on it, so sensitive when I try to chew or bite into anything, the pain is so severe it’s unbearable. My dentist says just use sensodyne toothpaste and it will be okay??? I have been doing this for six months now! On the other lower side (new fillings) I have had terrible toothache with swelling which he said was an abscess, gave me amoxicillin which did’nt get rid of it! I have now been told to go back after christmas! I am still in agony, my face is swollen and I am unable to eat and now looking forward to a very painful christmas. I don’t know what to do as I have so far spent thousands of pounds and don’t really want to go elsewhere, what can I do to ease the pain?

Will NHS fund the metal crowns for my front and back teeth?

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I wonder if you can help answer my question. I have Sjogren’s syndrome (now being successfully treated) which has caused extensive enamel erosion and badly damaged many of my teeth. My dentist has recommended crowning approximately 7 teeth, including both incisors and molars.I am exempt from nhs charges due to disability, however he tells me that I will have to pay approx £300 per tooth crowned unless I am willing to have metal(gold) crowns.I want to clarify the nhs position on repairing severely damaged teeth re porcelain/white crowns – your own site and other DOH information seems to suggest that these are available in this kind of situation? Also to clarify, if not, is it possible for me as a patient to “top up” the cost of providing the metal crowns(i believe £198) which the nhs would cover, to allow me to have the porcelain/white ones? many thanks

Is there a way o stop grinding? What are the options if crowns cannot be refitted?

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I am in my early 20’s and had 8 porcelain crowns (costing a small fortune!) on my upper front teeth about 4 months ago. The reason for this was mainly cosmetic as I grind my teeth at night and had severely damaged them over the years. My bite is ‘out’ (so I am told) therefore could not have veneers. The problem I have now is after originally adjusting my bite, I am now continuing to grind my teeth at night. I do wear a guard for this but can still notice the edges of the crowns becoming flattened and worry that they will not last me the year! My question is what should I do now? is there a way of putting a stop to my teeth-grinding? how many times can crowns be refitted and what are the options when crowns can not be refitted…false teeth? I would be extremely grateful for your help.

I have a missing upper left molar I have been recommended to have a bridge. What are my options

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
Q.
I have a missing upper left molar due to the fact that I had acrown fitted which did not take. I have now been recommended to have a bridge fitted, but do not feel that I have had the different types explained to me. I have been quoted £450 & £600. I have been told that one of the proceedures is called Maryland but after reading the details on the website I am even more cofused, The procedure shown to fit a bridge seems to consist of two crowns with a false tootha attached would this be the higher quote do you think. What procedure would you recommend? Regards

I HAVE A FRONT TOOTH CAP THAT NOTICEABLY STICKS OUT

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
Q.
I HAVE A FRONT TOOTH CAP THAT NOTICEABLY STICKS OUT IN FRONT OF THE ADJOINING TOOTH. I ASKED MY DETINT IS THIS COULD BE RECTIFIED SO THAT BOTH FRONT TEETH ARE FLUSH AND HE SAID NO BECAUSE ITS THE WAY THE TEETH ARE SET IN THE GUMS, BUT I HATE TO SMILE, BECAUSE IT IS THE FIRST THING THAT IS SEEN BY MYSELF AND IT MAKES ME NOT WANT TO SMILE. I REALLY WOULD LIKE THIS PUT RIGHT BUT I AM ON A TIGHT BUDGET, BUT THE WAY I FEEL I WOULD NOT HESTIATE IN OBTAINING A LOAN IF THIS COULD BE CORRECTED.
