My dog chipped my tooth, what should I do?

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011
Q.

This is a weird question, but my dog likes to lick peoples faces, and today he jumped up on my lap when I was watching a movie and laughing and clinked his tooth against my front tooth. Not the 2 front teeth, but the tooth right beside those teeth on my left, and now I feel like there’s a small dip. It’s something I see and I feel, but it isn’t too notieable unless I point it out. Is there any way for this sort of thing to be corrected without opting for veneers or a cap? Or if it’s small enough to not be too obvious or cause issues should I just live with it? Thanks.

Would it be best to have a crown to repair a chipped tooth?

Thursday, January 27th, 2011
Q.

Last year I chipped my front tooth whilst drinking from a bottle. I have had the gap filled in but am not happy with the colour and finish of the filling. I have spoken to my NHS dentist about further treatment and the talk of a crown was mentioned. He explained that I may need to have some root canel done on the tooth because the chip may have damaged the nerves. I was basically wondering if to have a crown done on the private would result in a better finish i.e colour and shape, then to the NHS finished crown ? Is there a major difference if any in the procedure and materials used ?. Because the NHS dentist has done my fillings on the chip and adviced me that i may need root canel mean that I should stay with the NHS or would going private result in a better end product ?.My main aim would be to get a matching colour crown with the rest of my front teeth. Thanks for your time, hope to hear from you soon.

Do i qualify for dentures on the NHS?

Monday, January 10th, 2011
Q.

15 years ago i used a teeth whitening set with gum shield at home, but my teeth didn’t go whiter, they went darker so i used more and more of these whitening sets, my teeth ended up falling apart and my problems started. Now 15 years on i am now 31, i have 5 caps on my front teeth, 7 missing teeth and all my teeth are black, and i mean black, the more i brush them the smaller they are getting, also when i had the caps fitted to my front teeth they are the wrong size and angle so i can not bite anything at all with my front teeth, i also can not eat using my side teeth as i don’t have any teeth on the bottom of one side, and the teeth on the other side are breaking apart as i have chewed on the same side for almost 15 years, i have my health visitor coming to see our baby and she has already sent me to the doctors 6 times as she thinks i am starving myself, i am not starving myself though i simply can not eat, i have lived off soups and soft sandwiches for years now and am very thin. also as my teeth are a horrible colour i do not have any photos of myself at all for the past 15 years, not one wedding photo and none at all with our 3 children, this is destroying my life. i am an NHS patient as i can not even begin to afford private work with the amount i need done, i wanted to ask what are my options? do i qualify for a set of false teeth so i can eat and smile again? i know i’m young for false teeth but i don’t know of any other way, i just can not believe i have destroyed my teeth by trying to make them better, i had no problems at all untill i used the teeth whitening product all those years ago, can you suggest anything at all please?

What are the options to repair my two front teeth and how much will it cost?

Monday, January 10th, 2011
Q.

Hi, my main front two teeth are the problem, one of which is chipped and i am having a crown put over it but i don’t see this as the final solution as i have been told they are noticeable which i do not want. The other tooth has become discoloured and has become dull after receiving a “impact” whilst playing rugby could you pleaser tell me what would be the best options for me and how much they are likely to cost? Many thanks

Should i repair a small remainder of my tooth with a crown or have it removed entirely?

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011
Q.

hi,
about 4 years ago I had a root canal filling. Last week three quarters of the tooth came away and actually I have no pain and can eat quite comfortably on it. Do you think I should leave it, have it crowned, although I am not sure there is enough tooth left to do that or have it removed? It is the tooth in front of my lower wisdom tooth and the one in front has already been removed. Thanks.

Can I choose which teeth to have cosmetic treatment on?

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011
Q.

i an seriously thinking about having a smile makeover. I only want the top done and i dont think its necessary for the back teeth to have veneers. Is it possible to have only the teeth that show when i talk or smile done? Thanks

What metals are used in crowns?

Friday, December 10th, 2010
Q.

I was advised to have my gold crown removed (dentist said x-ray showed ‘a problem’). I’ve had the new crown about a year. The You & Yours programme about aluminum bronzes worried me as my crown is bronze coloured. Wrote to my dentist asking what metals were in my crown. She replied: zinc, silver, gold, palladium, indium and iridium. Because of my residual concern I would be grateful if you would confirm that this alloy would result in a bronze colour, and that there is no risk of the metals leaching.
