Should i repair a small remainder of my tooth with a crown or have it removed entirely?

Q.
hi,
about 4 years ago I had a root canal filling. Last week three quarters of the tooth came away and actually I have no pain and can eat quite comfortably on it. Do you think I should leave it, have it crowned, although I am not sure there is enough tooth left to do that or have it removed? It is the tooth in front of my lower wisdom tooth and the one in front has already been removed. Thanks.

Hi,

Even if there is not much tooth left it may still be possible to restore your tooth with a crown. This would usually be the best option for a tooth which has had root canal treatment. Since the tooth in front has already been removed then it would be better to try and secure the longevity of this tooth otherwise there will be difficulties in chewing on this side should the tooth break further or require extraction. This would also be one of the reasons why you root-treated tooth has broken as it will be compensating for the missing tooth infront. I would advise having the tooth assessed for its suitability to have a crown.
Thank you for your enquiry.
