Would it be best to have a crown to repair a chipped tooth?

Q.
Last year I chipped my front tooth whilst drinking from a bottle. I have had the gap filled in but am not happy with the colour and finish of the filling. I have spoken to my NHS dentist about further treatment and the talk of a crown was mentioned. He explained that I may need to have some root canel done on the tooth because the chip may have damaged the nerves. I was basically wondering if to have a crown done on the private would result in a better finish i.e colour and shape, then to the NHS finished crown ? Is there a major difference if any in the procedure and materials used ?. Because the NHS dentist has done my fillings on the chip and adviced me that i may need root canel mean that I should stay with the NHS or would going private result in a better end product ?.My main aim would be to get a matching colour crown with the rest of my front teeth. Thanks for your time, hope to hear from you soon.

I cant advise on the root canal treatment without looking at an x-ray. As for the crown yes privately you would have a lot more choice of ceramic / porcelain crowns and they do give a better result aesthetically. Only downside they cost from £500.00
