I have dental phobia but my teeth are falling out, please help!

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I’m unsure how to begin, but my teeth are not in good condition. Over the past years I’ve been suffering from depression due to bullying and stress, often because of my looks, down more to my teeth. In my youth I hated them, and did not care for them, and as such they have degraded, and now, simply, they are falling out. I have lost five so far, and recently one of my two front teeth broke and fell out. I’m 22, and am unsure what to do. I am not registered with an NHS dentist, and in all honesty due to visits as a teen I am terrified of dentists and having things put into my mouth. I know that if I do not do something soon, things are only going to get worse than they already are. I am reluctantly seeking out a local NHS dentist for an examination, already knowing that they will probably have a field day with me, but I’m wondering if you have any advice for me otherwise. I am at a loss, and any hep would be greatly appreciated.,

Should I see a cosmetic dentist to fix my damaged teeth?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
I fell ill after returning from Afghanistan and collapsed, smashing my face off a wall. I lost one of my front teeth as a result and the others around it are cracked but have no functionality problems. I really liked my teeth before and had never had any work done on them – not even a filling. I’m 27 and having had root canal work done on the badly damaged tooth I now have a porcelain crown on the front tooth. The dentist and lab were very good and the tooth went back at least six times before the colour was good enough. It is a full porcelain crown made privately but the dentist was not a cosmetic one. The lab technician said that in 40 years he’d never seen anyone with such an unusual colour of teeth. The problem is that they are slightly translucent with a grey/yellow tinge and lots of white patches and layers that you can almost see through in places so they have found it hard to replicate exactly. In natural light the crown looks quite good but in any type of artifical light it looks greyer and darker than the other one and I’m finding myself covering my mouth when I laugh or smile. I’ve been led to believe that I have a strange colour of teeth and that this is probably the best it will ever be. Should I see a cosmetic dentist and risk spending even more money for something that might not be any better? Am I chasing the impossible? Or are there other options? Thanks.,

I want to pursue a career in dentistry, any advice?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
Dear Sir,I am currently studying for my A-Levels at Woodhouse Sixth Form College in London. For my A-Levels I have taken biology, chemistry, psychology and math, and I am hoping to pursue a career in dentistry once I have completed my A-Levels As an extracurricular activity I have taken up an Extended Project Qualification. The EPQ provides an additional AS-Level, and can be based on any area that an individual chooses to explore. I have based my Extended Project on cosmetic dentistry, and the question I am investigating is: “Is the increase in cosmetic dentistry a reflection of today’s image conscious society?” I would be grateful if you could provide your opinion on this question. This would be much appreciated. Thank You Regards,

Could one dental veneer improve my smile?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
Hello there. So, I was wondering about veneers. All I want is one, because my tooth is moved back a little bit on my top row and it really makes me self conscious about my smile. Unfortunately, my parents can’t afford braces. So I was wondering if that one veneer could improve my smile and make it look like my tooth isn’t actually back like it is. & how much do you think it would cost? Thanks for your time.,
