Would there be a reason why my dentist would have not wanted to opt for a graft from onset?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009
Q.
I had a post under the dental implants section of the forum entitled “too late for an implant?” I was wondering if you could advise on the following…. Since my last post I had my implant fitted in August of last year. I also had my natural teeth whitened. Last week I had my temporary crowns removed and replaced with my permanent crowns. I am due to go back for a check up on them next week. Whilst the final results are better looking aesthetically than my previous bridge on the NHS, I have since noticed that my permanent front crowns appear to protrude more than the natural surrounding teeth. They also appear slightly bigger. I suspect that this was a necessary evil in order to compensate for the gum recession I’ve experienced and an attempt to give the illusion of symmetry all round. Before I had the implant fitted, I enquired as to whether I would require any kind of gum/bone grafting as I could not understand how it would ever look the same again without this. I was advised that this would not be necessary and that he could achieve a good result without this so I went along with his recommendation. Now that I see the final result, I feel a little disapointed. Is it worth bringing this up when I go back next week for my check up? Would there be a reason why they would have not wanted to opt for a graft from the onset? Does this mean I can’t get one now in the future? I look forward to any advice you have.

my dental implant failed thrice is it possible for your gums to be allergic to the placed temp

Monday, April 27th, 2009
Q.
Hi, Genetically, I’m missing two adult teeth and my dentist recommended dental implants. He never took a CT scan or a panoramic X-Ray, only a few regular X-Rays, and he never mentioned anything about a bone graft to me. One implant worked great. On the other one, he attempted three times to complete the implant procedure, yet it failed all three times. At no point between any of these procedures did he mention anything about a lack of bone. He said it didn’t work the first two times because my gums were allergic to the temp he placed on my implant. So, the third time he didn’t place a temp directly on it, but let it heal for six months. Again, however, the implant failed, and it actually began protruding out of my gums. I went to another dentist, an implant specialist, and he told me that I had a ton of bone deterioration, and that I need a huge bone graft before he can try to do another implant. My question is- Should my first dentist have taken a CT scan or something to establish if I needed a bone graft from the start? Is it normal to mess up three times? Is it possible for your gums to be allergic to the placed temp?

Can i bond my two healthy teeth with a material that is not grey?

Monday, April 6th, 2009
Q.
Hi. I presently have a maryland bridge to replace one of my front teeth. Over the years my teeth have become more transparent due to loss of enamel?? The bonding material used can be seen through my other two front teeth. I would like to just replace this with another bridge but My question is, can it be bonded to my two healthy teeth with a material that is not grey and can be seen through??? Another option is a inplant but It looks like I will require a bone graft to insure sucess with this. I would prefer a less invasive procedure. If you could enlighten me that would be great.Thanking you in advance

I will not be able to be fitted for dentures due to the excessive bone loss

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
I am 48 years old, and have been progressively losing my bottom teeth. I have been examined by a total of six dentist, who claim that it is a combination of genetics and environment. According to these dentist, I will not be able to be fitted for dentures due to the excessive bone loss. Dentures are the only affordable option for me, as I do not have any health insurance at the moment. I am presently a college student, and soon will need to go out for an internship position, but I will not be able to due to my oral situation.
