my dental implant failed thrice is it possible for your gums to be allergic to the placed temp

Q. Hi, Genetically, I’m missing two adult teeth and my dentist recommended dental implants. He never took a CT scan or a panoramic X-Ray, only a few regular X-Rays, and he never mentioned anything about a bone graft to me. One implant worked great. On the other one, he attempted three times to complete the implant procedure, yet it failed all three times. At no point between any of these procedures did he mention anything about a lack of bone. He said it didn’t work the first two times because my gums were allergic to the temp he placed on my implant. So, the third time he didn’t place a temp directly on it, but let it heal for six months. Again, however, the implant failed, and it actually began protruding out of my gums. I went to another dentist, an implant specialist, and he told me that I had a ton of bone deterioration, and that I need a huge bone graft before he can try to do another implant. My question is- Should my first dentist have taken a CT scan or something to establish if I needed a bone graft from the start? Is it normal to mess up three times? Is it possible for your gums to be allergic to the placed temp?

A. Implant failure is very rare so failure 3 times is very uncommon. I personally take a CT csna of the jaws to determine the bone volume, however it is possible to measure the bone without a scan using a technique known as ridge mapping. Perhaps your dentist did this before treatment?? I would go back to him to voice your concerns especially regarding paying for the new implant and bone graft

Hello Dr

I have an implant on the lower jaw placed 1 year ago. It seem strong and no movement at the present. However I have a pain from the lingual side from the day of placement. At first my dentist said that this only healing process and then when I insisted he took an exray. Half of the bone were gone but there where no movement and no pocket on the probing. So then after 1 year we tried to put temporary abutment with temporary crown and I have more pain lingualy for 5 days than ever.
Now i dont know what possible to do. I went to see another dentist and he said That if he will remove the implant i will loose more bone ( i didnt have a lot bone in a first place, one dentist advised first to put bone first and another done without the bone , this was the cheaper option for me|. ) Could you please tell me if is possible at the same apointment to remove this implant and add extra bone, wait for some months and than place again implant. And what procent this will succsed.
Thanks

hello doctor, i have a single implant in place of my upper second incisor . The surgery took place immediately after old root extraction. Everything seemed to be fine but now, 11 days after the surgery i have a little swelling and feeling of pressure in my gums around the implant and tooth next to it. I went to see my dentist who took x-ray and says that no infection is present, implant looks fine and that it may be the healing process looking like this. I was advised to give it time. Can i be 110% sure that everything is fine? Please could i have your opinion.

No you can’t be 110% sure until you’ve waited for another 6-8 weeks, be very careful eating around the implant and keep it as clean as possible
