Ive a broken crown and my dentist say i need a bone graft and a dental implant is it normal?

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi I had a root canal less than 2 years ago and the crown broke last week. I went to a different dentist as I had moved out of town. He ex-rayed my tooth and told me that I should have a bone graft and a dental implant. I was reading this site regarding implants and am wondering now if he could tell that I need a bone graft by my ex-ray. I have no pain because the original treatment was for a root canal. I am going to do the implant, however am wondering if he could assess the need for the bone graft prior to the surgery. Also, what is the down time normally associated with this procedure?

I just noticed that my mouth palate is hard and it outward Is it abnormal bone growth

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009
Q.
I just noticed that my mouth palate is hard and it outward, I am not sure how long I have had this but I did have braces about four years ago and I am worried. Does this have anything to do with braces or is it an abnormal bone growth? It does not hurt at all but a few months ago after noticing the problem, that part of my mouth was sore like when you get burned and it was hard for me to eat, I rinsed with peroxide and in a couple of days it was back to normal.

is it possible to place an implant after bone grafting in my lower left second molar

Monday, June 1st, 2009
Q.
I’m 1 31 year old female and (due to dental negligence) am likely to need my lower left second molar extracting. I’m wondering if it’s always possible to place an implant here – I’m prepared to have bone grafts and so on but I’m really worried that even with this treatment an implant might not be possible in this region. I’ll obviously have a consultation with a specialist in implant dentistry but, for now, could you let me know if an implant can usually be placed here (followig grafting etc). Many thanks.

I was diagnosed with juvenile perionditis and now ive receding gums is there any thing i could do

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
Q.
I was diagnosed with juvenile perionditis almost 10 years back. I recieved treatment such as scaling and splints and my teeth are much more sturdy now and no sign of the disease anymore. A few Dentists have told me that I pretty much have no hope with the after effect of the disease which left me with alot of receding of the gums. I’m very insecure about my smile and it does effect me mentally. I was told i’m not a candidate for implants or bridges because of the significant bone loss…is there anything I could do??? fyi…i’m only 28!

my front tooth are smashed recently and i am very scared of dentist could you say anything

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr. Bohara… I recently fell and smashed my two front teeth. It was initially thought that both teeth required crowns, but upon further investigation one of them is so badly broken (in layers like an onion I’m told, above the gum line) that I’m going to lose the tooth completely and that an implant is my only option. I grew up in the UK and am absolutely terrified of dentists, have been my whole life so now as a 45 year old female, I’m now faced with what I consider the most devasting dental treatment imaginable. I had perfectly straight natural teeth prior to this and am worried because it’s a front tooth that it won’t be returned to the way it was as I also have to have a bone graft. I will opt for IV sedation but am having trouble getting my head around the fact that I won’t be asleep (I’d much rather be knocked out completely)-I don’t want to be aware of anything or feel anything. Can you offer any advice for me in terms of this being such a prominent tooth and also if I’ll feel anything. I appreciate how busy you are, but would be very grateful for for anything you could say to ease my mind. I would almost have rather broken my limbs than have this happen! Thank you very much for your time Dr. Bohara.

i have read that implants can only be fitted within 3 months of tooth extraction is this true?

Friday, May 8th, 2009
Q.
I am in my early thirties and have horrendous damage to my teeth through self abuse such as bulimia and i also had an accident when i was younger for which i was given high amounts of fluoride which when my adult teeth came through they were severly stained and very brittle. i have now had about 12 teeth removed in total and i wear a top denture plate for the missing ones but nothing on the bottom plate as i have never been advised or tried for one. i have always been very self conscious about my smile but now it is horrendous my plate does not fit well and it irritates me constantly even though i have had it for over a year now and i end up taking it out and not waering it when im home, although my husband is very good about this its not exactly very sexy especially for someone of my age. im now so desperate to sort my smile out but have no idea what my options are as my dentist is not very good. i thought about implants but the amount i would need would be extrememly costly and i have read that implants can only be fitted within 3 months of tooth extraction due to bone and gum shrinkiage is this true?? are there any other options that you think may be open to me??? i live in essex quite near chelmsford what would the cost be for me to have a consultation with yourself?? thanks so much for any help and advice you can give me

I have had chronic gum disease is it possible to have bone graft and any idea of costs

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009
Q.
I have had chronic gum disease, which was controlled by deep cleaning in the “pockets”. Things have now settled down, but several of my top teeth had to be removed as they were loose. I wear a partial denture (valplast), which is fine. I did ask my denist about implants, but he said I had too much bone loss. Apparently the only way forward would be a bone graft or something. Is this possible and any idea of costs. Many thanks for your help, regards
