Is my dentist using Social 6 braces correctly?

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011
Q.

Hi Doctor, I am a bit confused. My lower arch teeth are a bit crooked. I went to a dentist a few days ago and he proposed to fix them with minimum impact with “Social 6”. This would imply scraping off a bit of the enamel of my teeth to provide for some extra space for the teeth to move back into position.
I liked the dentist, and I was quite pleased the treatment did not imply removing my wisdom teeth, but reading some comments in this forum I gather that fixing the front 6 teeth (as apposed to the whole arch) and, above all, scraping the enamel off my teeth is not “good practice” and should not be done. What’s your view about it?
Many thanks for your time.

Kind regards

Braces have stained my teeth, would you recommend veneers or lumineers?

Friday, June 24th, 2011
Q.

Hey Dr. Mark,  A female,I live in Jordan middle east, am 23 with a very bad experience with braces for 8years, which caused badly stained teeth, and i have been using dental composite (teeth facing) for the past 5 – 6 years.
I hate the way my teeth look, i wish to re-size them and make them brighter and get a perfect smile.

oh and i have 2 implants i did them 3 weeks ago.

My main question what do you think is better in my case lumineers or Vaneers? and for how long they last?
Many Thanks,

What type of veneers are best for my teeth?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
Q.

i am thinking about having veneers on my upper 6 front teeth, and my dentist said to use vita veneers, one dentist said take the veneers to the tooth tip the other said take it over the tip and around, over the incisor edge. what do you advise?
they also said about having temporary veneers but didn’t explain exactly how these stick to my teeth while i wait for the real ones to be made?
I do not have any decay and my gums are healy the teeth are just very crooked and i would like them to appear staighter and fresher looking.
how long doyou think they will last also?

thank you

My teeth has shifted slightly since wearing a brace, what can be done?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

hi, i was wondering that i had braces wihen i was younger but four years later i notice that they have shifted slightly, would i need to get braces again. Also my front two teeth have been extremely sensitive since i had braces and ive never been able to bite straight on, its always been at an angle. Thirdly i have this discolouration on my front tooth and i was wondering what is the best way to get rid of that mark without altering the actual tooth’s structure itself. thanks.

I don’t know which brace treatment is the best for me, what do you recommend?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

I am told I qualify for all types of braces. I am most interested in Lingual braces – realistly whats the absolute cheapest I could get these for?

I have about 2.5K max…! Should I settle for a standard brace?

Also are they as effective as other braces. I work in sales so would prefer a clear brace. So confused as if you look on the internet it quotes so many different prices.

Please help.

What is the best option for my buck teeth, orthodontics or veneers?

Thursday, June 16th, 2011
Q.

Hi there, I am 22 years old and never smile with my teeth out as they stick out at the front. It looks like I sucked my thumb when I was young although i didnt. When i clench my teeth i can fit the tip of my thumb under my front teeth.
I have been looking at veneers as they look good and seem to be in my price range but would i be able to get them as my teeth stick out. i would like my teeth to be straight but from research braces seem far too expensive. if i had veneers would my teeth still look like they stick out?

I am 27 and am unsure if braces or veneers are best of my condition, what do you suggest?

Monday, June 13th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr Patel.

I am hoping that you can advise me with regard to my enquiry. I am 27 years of age and never had braces fitted as a child.

During childhood when second set/adult teeth were coming through one of my incisors erupted through roof of mouth behind my canine and was putting pressure on it and pushing it forward or outwards.

Due to this I had that tooth extracted and was advised by my dentist to have a fixed brace fitted to straighten my teeth.

Now, many years on I have realised that I should have had it done but because I didn’t I have misaligned teeth now where my 2 front incisors are offset and are actually not in the centre of my mouth but a whole tooth over to the left where the removed incisor should have been. I now have 5 teeth that are visible on top jaw instead of an even number of six (canine and incisors).

This has caused me great misery as I have not smiled with my teeth in a photo for over 10 years as they look out of line and are odd. Recently I went to visit an Orthodontist and was told that with a fixed appliance or brace I could have the 2 incisors moved to the centre of my mouth to line up with nose but in order to achieve this, the other remaining incisor that would have been paired with the extracted incisor would have to be removed also.

This essentially would cause a gap between my incisor and canine so that my 2 front teeth can be pulled into new position via brace and give me symmetry which is what I want.

My concern is that with a tooth missing (approx 8mm) is it really possible for a brace to shift that gap closed and pull my teeth to centre?

Surely due to the fact that I am 27 years of age and all adult teeth have come through and jaw bone has stopped growing that the bone is set solid and it is impossible to close a gap where a tooth has been removed?

I am getting mixed opinion and being told that a brace simply cannot achieve this and I would have to have either an implant to disguise the gap or have veneers fitted to mask the fact that my 2 front incisors are offset.

Also, I have a deep bite and was told even before tooth extraction I would have to be much patient and have a fixed metal brace on lower teeth to correct the bite and lift up teeth so that end result will be satisfactory.

What are my options and will braces fix the removed tooth and shift the teeth to create a balanced smile?

Thank you.

I had a brace but now my teeth have moved back into their original place, what do you suggest?

Q.

Hello

I got braces when I was 13 and had them taken off when I was 15. I broke my retainer and didn’t go back to get another one.

My top teeth are relatively straight. Perfect to me, but my bottom jaw has gone onky again. My central incisors have moved backards. Other than that there are no other faults that I can see.

How much would it be to get train tracks on my lower jaw again?
& is there any alternative methods to straightening my teeth other than the train tracks?

Thanks for your time

What are the best invisible braces?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

Hi Rob

My situation is that i have pretty awful teeth due to growing up scared due to the way they look…and still I dont like the idea of having the classic metal visible braces. If it was up to me I would get some sort of surgery even if it means not having my original teeth but my girlfriend just won’t allow that to happen. So i’m looking for a quick cheap and non visible way of straightening my teeth…but arnt we all?

I am aware of invisalign but I hear the worse shape your teeth are in then the more it will cost so in my case that will means 5k+

Regards
