Is my dentist using Social 6 braces correctly?

Q.
Hi Doctor, I am a bit confused. My lower arch teeth are a bit crooked. I went to a dentist a few days ago and he proposed to fix them with minimum impact with “Social 6”. This would imply scraping off a bit of the enamel of my teeth to provide for some extra space for the teeth to move back into position.
I liked the dentist, and I was quite pleased the treatment did not imply removing my wisdom teeth, but reading some comments in this forum I gather that fixing the front 6 teeth (as apposed to the whole arch) and, above all, scraping the enamel off my teeth is not “good practice” and should not be done. What’s your view about it?
Many thanks for your time.

Kind regards

A.
the dental term for the scraping is IPR / interproximal reduction, you can search the internet for background information but generally moderate reduction is mainstream thinking.
Tooth alignment in adults is more about appearance than function and anterior only fixes are acceptable if function is not adversley affected, lifetime retention is the dealbreaker for most adults
