I am worried about the discolouration on the front of my teeth

Monday, January 21st, 2013
Q.

Hello,
I visited a dentist (approx 3 years ago) when I was visiting my parents in Australia who told me that I had the beginings of interdental caries on every tooth (showing only on Xray). I am now concerned about some discolouration on my front tooth which looks like a new cavity is beginning. I know I should probably visit my own NHS dentist for the moment. But thinking of the long run, can veneers be put in place even when there are the beginnings of decay? My teeth are not so bad that others would notice unless their attention was drawn and they were to look very closely at my teeth.
I am just constantly worried about my teeth and the future of my teeth as I am only 25 but have always brushed twice a day and now floss and use mouthwash daily.
Any info would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Is it really necessary for me to have an operation to fix my overbite?

Friday, December 7th, 2012
Q.

Hiya Dr Butt. I wondered if you would be able to advise me on an issue I have been suffering with? I have an overbite and slightly crooked teeth and have been told by an orthodontist that i need to have a jaw operation and a brace fitted to give the best result. I am not keen on this route and wondered if i was able to have veneers fitted instead, or veneers fitted and a invisalign brace as i am not keen on having the operation, i am 37 years old and am not confident with smiling and just want a quicker result.Any advice would be great a general idea of prices might be good too! thank you.

My front tooth looks longer than the rest of my teeth, will braces fix this?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

I´m 52. After a periodontal treatment, my gums receded and one of my front teeth looks “longer” than the rest of my teeth, and it´s crooked, so there´s a gap between this tooth and the next. My guess is that I would need braces to straighten my front teeth, then I´ll have to find a way to align my gums, or maybe a veneer? What would you suggest? I don´t smile in pictures anymore 🙁
What treatment(s) would you recommend?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hiya Dr Moore I was wondering if you could help me with a problem? Here it is: my teeth are fairly straight but I have quite a big gap between my two front teeth which is making me very self conscious and I am wondering what procedure would be best to close this gap up I have been meaning to look into this for a while now and don’t have any ideas of what you could do, if you could let me know what would be best to do it would be great as i don’t know how to go about getting treated etc. I’m looking for something that can be done quickly as it’s really getting me down now and I’m fed of horrid remarks. Thank you very much for your time.

My dentist has created a plan to fix the teeth at the back of my mouth, what do you think of it?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Moore..I wondered if you could help me? I want veneers for a narrow arch and dark coloured teeth at the back (due to lots of dark fillings). My dentist says he feels that whitening and then composite bonding on the back teeth will be an effective and much cheaper option that will give me the results I want as basically the front teeth are fine it’s just the back ones that you can’t see when I smile. He also says that some back teeth might need crowns at some point and this can be done easily with just the composite veneers to remove. What do you think about this? Is he right? Does it sound like a good plan?? It’s nice of him to try and save me money but i want the best results possible. Thank you for your time!

How could I go about fixing my tooth ridges and unbalanced incisor teeth?

Friday, November 30th, 2012
Q.

I have straight top teeth due to braces, but I still have a back brace on them. The bottom of my top teeth have many ridges in it and don’t give off that polished hollywood smile look. I also have lateral incisors which look really unbalanced in my mouth I think. My teeth are also really oval and I just want to have that hollywood smile. Also my teeth are slightly transparent, on my top teeth its at the bottom and on my bottom teeth its at the top. Is this due to drinking fizzy drinks, cause I don’t drink that much of them. Is there anything that can be done to fix these problems? I.e. make my teeth straighter at the bottom, also to make them wider and perhaps to add some colour back to them?

Getting veneer has made my jaw ache and caused me headaches. What should I do?

Thursday, November 29th, 2012
Q.

I had veneers placed on peg laterals. once covered in bonding it was time to replace the material. My new teeth hurt and look bad. My teeth are moving, partucularly the neighboring teeth on the left and it is ruining my orthadontic work. My jaw hurts despite my following g dentist directions to use Advil and ice. It has been six weeks from her first attempt and one week from her replacing I e veneer due to what she thought was a bad color. My dentist has done six adjustments and one replacement but I can only close my jaw comfortably laying down, not standing, talking, or eating. I have a gap now and a constant headache. What is wrong?

What would be a suitable treatment to remedy yellow tinge to my teeth?

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012
Q.

I am a 61 year old female and my teeth have a definite yellow cast. I have had a yellow tinge to my teeth all my life (I think). I have naturally red hair and very pale freckled skin. I have several crowns. I also clench and grind my teeth despite using a nightguard.
Whitening treatments don’t help and I don’t drink coffee, cola etc. I do tend to have dry mouth. I drink fluorinated water.
I have read that yellow teeth can result from thinned dental enamel. If so, is there any restoration treatment to build up and lighten the enamel?
I am concerned that veneers wouldn’t work due to my clenching.
Do you have any suggestions to help with this problem?
Thank you for your help

Why won’t my dentist give me veneers?

Wednesday, November 21st, 2012
Q.

Hi I have had two sessions at a cosmetic dentist as I was looking at having veneers fitted to cover my front two teeth. Both of these teeth have been root filled and one is very stained and slightly crooked, can veneers do the job or will I have to have crowns. The first consultation of 1/2hr advised me to make an appointment for braces, I do not want this and on my return repeated my request for veneers, after spending £200 on x-rays, moulds, my next apt is soon and I have a feeling that he will suggest crowns, I do not want to lose so much of a tooth for this though.

How can I make my veneers look more natural?

Wednesday, November 21st, 2012
Q.

Hello there,

I had Veneers fitted to 8 of my top teeth 18 months ago. I’m disappointed with them as they don’t look as natural as I would have liked. I have a very narrow palette and wanted to broaden the look of it as much as I could. My brief was that I didn’t want my teeth to look too perfect and wanted to look as natural as possible.I feel they are a little big for my face and slightly too white. A women at the hairdressers said to me ” I love your teeth. Where did you have them done” Not really a reaction I was looking for. Is there anything to be done to correct this?
Kind Regards
