Good morning Dr Hughes. I am having my bottom four front teeth pulled in five weeks’ time, and at a later date I will be having them replaced by prostheses. In the meantime, there will be a pretty obvious gap there, and I would prefer it to be temporarily disguised. Is there any material that could be put in the gap until my new teeth are ready, and would it be possible for me to do this myself at home? I cannot afford any appointments for temporary filler as the treatment I’m already having has cost quite a lot, but I will be going a month or two without these teeth. Is there any temporary material I can put in this space so I don’t look so toothless for a few months? Thanks you.

Thursday, September 4th, 2014Could I Get Veneers to Change the Shape of My Teeth?
Thursday, September 4th, 2014Hi Dr Hughes. I have had braces in the past, but my front teeth relapsed slightly after the treatment had finished. I am due to turn 21 this year and I have been unhappy with my 4 top front teeth for a while. I have spent a lot of money on my braces to still be this unhappy. I think my teeth are oddly shaped and they push out from the side. I was considering veneers or something similar, would these be suitable to change the shape of my teeth? I would like some advice on what my options would be. I am not very familiar with veneers or the price range but I am willing to consider my options. Thank you in advance.
I Don’t Know What To Do Now That My Root Canal Treatment Has Failed. Should I Opt For A Dental Implant?
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014I had root canal treatment on one of my back teeth about 8 years ago and it’s now failed. I now need to consider whether to go for a re-root, or to have the tooth out and get an implant. I’m struggling with what to do. The cost of the implant my dentist has advised me it will be in the region of £2.5k and a re-root, which may not have a great success rate for a long period, will be around £1300 with new crown etc. In your experience, is it better to go for an implant? Are there any other alternatives? Also, in the past, I’ve had a lot of work done to my teeth – should I be looking at dental insurance plans now, as I’ve spent £1000’s in the last 10 years.
Good Day Dr Hughes. Can I Have Veneers Fitted When My Two Front Teeth Are Crossed Over?
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014 Good day Dr Hughes. I hope you can help me. Can I have dental veneers fitted when my two front teeth are slightly crossed over? I have always been self conscious about my teeth and veneer treatment seems to be the best option for me so far. I’m just unsure whether this would work as a friend told me that veneers are more commonly used for gaps. Also am I able to pay on finance when getting veneers? Am I able to get veneers at the age of 18 years old?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Hi Mark. I Used To Wear Braces But Now My Teeth Are Slipping Back. Would Using Invisalign To Correct This Be Wise?
Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014Hi Mark. I had braces for over 3 years between the ages of 12-15, I struggled to wear my retainer as I should of and as a result, my lateral incisor has started to slip back and regress behind my front teeth. I am now 23 and 3 years ago I decided to get he a direct composite applied to it in order to ‘build up’ the tooth to be in line with my existing teeth. My question is how long does this composite usually last and should I think about getting it replaced? I think the tooth is still regressing and my overbite is more prominent as well, would thinking of getting braces like Invisalign be wise?
My Teeth Won’t Close Together Properly As I Used To Suck My Thumb. If I Was To Get An Operation For This, Would I Have To Pay?
Monday, September 1st, 2014 Hello Dr Hughes. My teeth won’t close together and it’s they’re all messed up because I used to suck my thumb. I stopped this last year. I really want an operation on my mouth. I can’t even smile. If I was to get an operation do I have to pay? My tongue sticks out and it’s really annoying. I really want to have a perfect straight smile that would close properly and I want to feel happy and good about my teeth.
My jaws are really wonky and they won’t close together while my front teeth are really messed up and they won’t close together. I really need to help. I would love to get surgery.
I Recently Had An NHS Veneer Fitted. I Am Most Upset At The Final Appearance As It Looks Bulky. What Are My Options Now?
Monday, September 1st, 2014Hello Dr Hughes. My question is about a dental veneer I had fitted by a NHS dentist 4 days ago, I had this done to replace an old veneer that had a fracture. I am most upset by the final appearance as it looks bulky and sticks out against my other tooth and the fitting feels wrong, I can feel air from the top of veneer, it’s hard to describe but it’s similar to the feeling of when you floss and you can tell you’ve flossed because you can blow air through the small gaps between your teeth. What are my options now as I am concerned I’m going to be stuck with what I’ve got? Many thanks for your help.
I Recently Had Eight Veneers Fitted And I’m Struggling To Make Certain Sounds. Please Advise Me? It Doesn’t Seem To Get Any Better.
Friday, August 29th, 2014 Hi Mark. I recently had veneers done on the upper 8 teeth, my old teeth were small and spaced apart. Now I can hardly pronounce anything and especially the
“S” sound. I’ve heard that it gets better with the time but what worries me is that no improvement what so ever had happened since I installed the new veneers. All the practice I’ve been doing seems to have no effect at all. Also the veneers that were installed are bigger and taller than my original teeth. Please advise me doctor? Thanks.
I Would Like To Know If You Treat Children For Orthodontics Who Suffer From Osteoporosis?
Friday, August 29th, 2014Hello Dr Hughes. I hope you can help us. I would like to know if you treat children for orthodontics who have been on biphosphonate treatment for osteoporosis? My daughter is 14 years old and has been on and off treatment for 8 years. I have had her on waiting lists for up to two years only to then be told that now they won’t treat her, even though her consultant has said the risks are minimal. Is this something you or any of your colleagues can advise us on? She is desperate to be treated because she also has overcrowding that can be painful at times. Thank you.
