I have a crown that the tooth under the crown has darkened. This is a front tooth and in this case the gums are receding somewhat. Can a crown have a venere placed on it vice having the crown replaced when it appears to have darkened? There has been no pain resulting from this and as yet no discomfort at all. The crown is spmething over 40 years old. If the crown must be replaced can you please describe the procedure and possible complications?

My crown has darkened, should I have it replaced or have a veneer put over it?
Tuesday, February 21st, 2012What treatments can I expect to have during a smile makeover?
Tuesday, February 21st, 2012Dear Dr Mark Hughes,
I have recently had my two front teeth chipped almost in half. I currently have temporary fillers on them, i have generally nice teeth, but as i am going to want them looking how they did before i am wanting to spend more money and have a total smile makeover.
I have a gap in my teeth which i’d quite like to keep, i would quite like my top teeth to be pulled in, as they protrude slightly and for the bottom teeth to be straightened and aligned. I am not sure whether this will require braces/invisalign/veneers/removals and/or crowns.
I am keen to start the process asap.
Are veneers the best choice for straightening my crossed, discoloured teeth?
Friday, February 10th, 2012Hi, I’m looking into getting cosmetic dentistry but I do not know what the best option is, my main issue is the colour of my teeth and the fact that one of my upper front tooth overlaps the one next to it due to an accident when I was younger which makes my smile lobsided and crooked. Would I need veneers or is it not possible to readjust my teeth alignment so that it does not overlap? I would prefer to keep my two front teeth as they are distinctive to me and they are not a bad shape in themselves its just the overlapping that is the issue, I definitely want veneers on my there teeth though as my canines do not match in size and the rest are also not similar in shape and size. Its really getting me down now, I am 21 and have been thinking of getting my teeth done for 7 years now.
Will my gold crown affect my chance of achieving a ‘Hollywood Smile?’
Tuesday, January 31st, 2012Hi Mark
If i am honest I dont actually NEED veneers, my teeth are very healthy and of a good standard, However I am in the performance industry and there is always room for perfection.
However, I do have a solid white gold cap on my left canine which I wish to have replaced to… At the time i was told that this had been cemented on and will be permanent as my tooth had been filed down in order to complete this.
Tell me, will this effect me from getting the hollywood smile I am looking for and if not, what processes do I need to go through to obtain the perfect look?
My front teeth hurt after having porcelain veneers fitted, what should I do?
Monday, January 30th, 2012I had veneers fitted on my 8 front teeth -upper & lower – about 18 months ago and was in severe pain for about 4 months following the procedure. Since then i’ve been ok but for the past 3 days the pain in my front tooth is causing me the same distress, constant throbbing in my teeth, sore tongue & gums, sleepless nights and back on the pain-killers! How long should I put up with this pain before i seek medical assistance from my dentist? Will the pain subside like it did after 4 months after the initial treatment? Is it possible to have root canal treatment without removing the veneer & will this get rid of the pain I am in???
My crowned tooth is causing me a lot of pain, what could this be?
Monday, January 30th, 2012I was woken up on friday night, with really sharp throbbing pains in my tooth, molar, which was crowned about 6 months ago, I have been taking painkillers for 2 days but is no good, pain is still there and is strong, do you think i have an infection in my crown?what could this be? I have not had any root treatment for this tooth. I have had another crown on a different tooth, but that has not given me any problems, I havent made an dentist appointment yet should I make one? Thank you for your time doctor
What is the best option to close my front tooth gap?
Monday, January 23rd, 2012I have an 1/8 in gap between my two front teeth and I was wondering if you would recommend orthofill bands as a solution…or what would you recommend.. its unsightly to me. I’ve done quite a bit of research on orthofill sounds OK except I haven’t had any expert advice I would appreciate some pointers. Also I am a 23 yr old male and have been wanting to fix the problem since my teen years it always embarrassed me. I would love to smile with confidence and would rather not get braces if there is another way being my teeth are really straight other than the gap. Thanks
