My crown has darkened, should I have it replaced or have a veneer put over it?

I have a crown that the tooth under the crown has darkened. This is a front tooth and in this case the gums are receding somewhat. Can a crown have a venere placed on it vice having the crown replaced when it appears to have darkened? There has been no pain resulting from this and as yet no discomfort at all. The crown is spmething over 40 years old. If the crown must be replaced can you please describe the procedure and possible complications?

The simplest solution to your problem is probably to replace the crown, as veneering the crown may not be as reliable in the long term and may not achieve the best aesthetic result anyway.
If things are straight forward the process would normally involve 2 appointments, the first to remove the old crown and place a temporary one. At the second appointment the new crown is fitted.
