How Can I Get Rid of Tooth Sensitivity?

Thursday, June 11th, 2015
Q.

I feel sensitivity in my teeth even when I breath. I’ve used many sensitive toothpastes but had no recovery on a permanent basis. I feel dryness in my mouth when I awake in the morning along with bad breath. I used to brush my teeth before going to bed. Can you suggest something so I could get rid of this situation? I have already visited many dentists but no permanent solution has been found for my problem. Some of my friends told me about online treatment.

I Replaced My Amalgam Filling With A White Filling As It Had Decay. My Molar Tooth Is Now Throbbing. Should I Go Back To My Dentist?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. Today I got an amalgam filling replaced with a white filling. The tooth was not sore in any way but the dentist advised that there was decay and that I would need the filling removed. The molar tooth is now throbbing. Is this normal? Also when I eat, the food seems to be lodging between the filled tooth and the other molar, this did not happen before the procedure. Should I go back to the the dentist? I wish I hadn’t got the amalgam filling removed as it did not cause me any pain. Now I feel like I’ll probably need a root canal. Thank you.

My Partner Is Finding Her Top Denture Uncomfortable To Wear. Is There Such A Thing As A ‘Top Self Denture’?

Wednesday, October 15th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. My partner has top dentures (all except one canine tooth). She has a thing about them and it is making her very self conscious and they are making her very sensitive and unhappy. I think she would be better with a top set that are top of the market so to speak, is there such a thing? She is too young to be going through this, she does have her bottom teeth, but she had a gum problem which is why she has top dentures. Please can you help us? Regards.

Can I Have My Teeth Trimmed Down And Would This Cause Any Sensitivity Or Pain?

Monday, October 6th, 2014
Q.

Hi Marcus, I am 34 year old, male. My two front teeth are too big for the others. Can the teeth be trimmed without having to wear braces, veneers, a cap and/or crowns? The second thing I would like to know is whether this would cause me any sensitivity problems? I don’t want any sensitivity or pain as I currently don’t have any tooth problems. I don’t want to use braces and would only trim 2 of my front teeth without the use of veneers. Is this possible? Thanks.

Dear Dr Gambroudes.

Sometime in February last year, I had a weird sensation on my left canine tooth. I felt this sensation even more strongly whenever I had something to eat or something to drink. As soon as I could feel it, I’d have to stop eating or drinking because it got too intense. This went on for a couple of weeks. A few weeks after I first felt it, there was a chip on the tooth, which then left a hole in the tooth. A few days after that, I noticed that the affected tooth was changing colour. What could be the problem, and what do you advise I do in these circumstances? Thank you.

What Damage Could 0.01% Sodium Perborate Do To My Teeth?

Wednesday, September 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. Please can I ask you what damage 0.01% sodium perborate could do to my teeth? I am so confused with the legal aspects and safety and sensitivity.

I would really like to have my teeth whitened professionally, but I have very sensitive teeth already, so I couldn’t stand or bear a procedure that would cause me any excruciating pain in the process. I have been advised that sodium perborate causes no damage whatsoever, and more to my shock as I didn’t think it would be possible, no sensitivity at all during treatment or after? Please could you advise me on this?   Thanks in advance.

20 Dental Implants In Hungary Would Cost Around £10,000. What Would It Cost Here As A Ball Park Figure?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. My NHS dentist recently said I should consider going private for a full mouth restoration. I have severe sensitivity and loss of enamel. I have lost many teeth and struggle now to hold my top dentures in. How much roughly, ball park prices would I be looking at to have it done here rather than abroad?
With I think up to 20 implants in Hungary for example would be around £10,000.
What would it be here?
Thank you.

I Have A Few Pointy Teeth. Can They Be Filed Down To Be Level? Would This Make My Teeth Sensitive?

Friday, August 15th, 2014
Q.

Hey Dr Hughes, I have a tooth that sticks out so whenever I smile you can see it creeping out. It’s so annoying. It’s on the top left hand side and slightly come out over my middle tooth. Can anything be done about this? Could it be filled down or something? Also I have a few of pointy teeth on the top and bottom can they also be filed down to be levelled? Would getting anything of this sort make my teeth sensitive? I once had my teeth whitened and my teeth really hurt so much, like a shocking pain for 2 weeks. Also how much would this cost me?

Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you soon. Regards.

My NHS Dentist Doesn’t Answer My Questions Regarding Gum Grafts. What Are My Options?

Monday, August 4th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I have gum recession which is moderately bad on my bottom middle two teeth but less so on the surrounding few. I also have it moderately bad on one tooth on my top row. It has been caused by overaggressive brushing but I have now learnt how to brush properly, I was thinking of having a gum graft and was wondering what my options are? My current NHS dentist doesn’t really answer my questions and seems keen on just giving me sensitive toothpaste and putting fluoride on the areas affected. Why is this? Thank you.

I Have A Grinding Problem With My Molar. My Dentist Has Advised My To Have It Extracted But I Would Like To Know A Different Solution?

Friday, July 25th, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes, I am 47 years old now. I have a chewing or grinding problem with my right 3rd molar. I have pain and sensitivity but no swelling or redness. My dentist advised me to go for extraction as there is grade 2 mobility. Do I really need to have extraction when there is no swelling. Kindly guide me? I am not diabetic or hypertensive.I got flap surgery done 5 years back and till now I have maintained them with proper care. For 6 months now this 3rd molar is not co-operating and it hurts to bite food. Do you know of any other treatment which could help me?
