How Can I Overcome My Phobia to Get the Treatment I Need?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015
Q.

Hello I am 52 and have several problem teeth, either with cavities or broken. I have already lost 3 teeth and have been told another will have to come out. My mouth is constantly in pain from rotting teeth and bad gums. The problem is though, I am scared to death of dentists, last time I had anaesthetic I had a mini stroke in the chair and ended up in hospital. I am thinking I would like a new set of teeth, preferably implants, but know while my gums are the way they are, this is becoming less of a possibility. In the end the problem is so big, I am just taking pain killers constantly and hiding from the problem. What should I do?

What Can I Do To Prevent Further Decay Until I See a Dentist?

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015
Q.

I have recently become very concerned about my teeth. I haven’t been to the dentist in 4 years and in that time I haven’t really suffered, but after inspecting my teeth I have noticed that four of my teeth on my lower jaw (the molars) are discoloured and on two of them it is obvious that it is tooth decay (there is black in the crevices). I’m not registered with an NHS dentist but I am on the waiting list (I live in Wales – where it seems to be near impossible to get in to any dentist) and I am not working at the moment so cannot afford private care, is there anything I can do to prevent these cavities from getting worse until I am able to get an appointment for them to be treated? I am also very nervous of any judgment that I may receive when I eventually do get to see a dentist. Any advice that you have would be much appreciated – thank you!

Do I Have a Cavity?

Friday, April 24th, 2015
Q.

Dear doctor,
I am experiencing some discomfort at the moment, probably the upper left 4 or 5 teeth, but I think is the premolar and it is sensitive to sweet things. Could it be a cavity or maybe too much hard brushing on that side, considering that I just chew from that side of the mouth?
I’m getting worried because on the right side a very deep cavity was not found in the past and I had to have a root canal treatment.
I m scheduled with a dentist but I just wanted to have some extra advice to be on the safe side…my OPG taken in December doesn’t show any abnormalities or caries.
Many thanks in advance, I hope you can help me.

I Plan To Have Crowns To Replace My Veneers. Could You Recommend A Decent Dental Practice For This?

Monday, July 28th, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Gambroudes,

I have had veneer treatments several times in my two front teeth.

Before I was six, I was brought up in a place with very high level of fluoride in the drinking water and I developed fluoriosis, especially on the front teeth. When I was around 17, cavities were found in the two front teeth and as they were so bad, I had to have the roots removed.

The veneer treatments were on top of all the above conditions. I plan to have crowns to replace the veneers as the colour never lasts long and there are cracks on the surface as well. I wonder if you could recommend me some good dental practice clinics as well as suggest what materials I should use for crowns.

Thank you very much.

Best wishes.

I’m Currently Not Registered With A Dentist And My Teeth Are Starting To Decay. What Should I Do?

Friday, February 7th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I’m 17 years old, (nearly 18) and have decay in around 6 of my back teeth which is making it increasingly harder to eat. I haven’t been to the dentist for 2 years and I’m currently not registered with one. Also one of my top front teeth is black in 2 spots at the back which is now coming through the front. Another one of my top front teeth has a black line along the top of it. Finally one of my front teeth has 2 holes either side of it and the tip of it, the hole at the tip is black. I would like to know what you believe I would need to have done with the information I given, if it’s not enough then I apologise. Also I would like to know if it’s likely I could have treatment done while being put to sleep?

I’ve Quit Smoking And I’m On A Healthy Diet. Is There Anything On The NHS That Can Fix My Discoloured Teeth?

Monday, January 27th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I have fillings in the front of my teeth and my teeth are very discoloured from the dye and I’m not very confident. Is there anything on the NHS that can help me? My confidence is so bad that when it comes to job interviews I back out. Also talking to anyone I avoid it completely it’s really getting me down. I’ve quit smoking and on a healthy diet. I’ve looked online about teeth whitening but they don’t and won’t work on teeth that have holes, fillings or cavities. I really hope you can advise me on this. Thank you.

22 teeth are declining at an alarming rate. They are crooked, yellow, cavities, and have gum disease. Advise?

Friday, February 15th, 2013
Q.

Hi! I’m 22 years old and I feel like my teeth are declining at an alarming rate. I can’t afford the dentist since I moved and I have no insurance.
They are crooked, yellow, cavities, and the most annoying of all is the gum disease. I also grind my teeth 24/7.
The left side of my mouth doesn’t seem to have gum disease, but the right side where I grind my teeth the most is red, like a red outline around each tooth. The bottom fronts are the worst. The gums are receding and 2 of them seem to be loose. Which leads to my question.
While I wait to have the chance to get this smile I have been dreaming about since I was little, what can I do to prevent these teeth from falling out? The disease isn’t SUPER severe, but will they still fall out sooner than later?
