My dentist is only offering me an amalgam filling, couldn’t I have a white one instead?

Friday, June 24th, 2011
Q.

Hello
I recently visited a dentist who has advised me I need an amalgam filling replaced and refilled using the same material, I asked her about white composite fillingsand she reluctantley said she could do it but said it would not be strong enough in my root filled back tooth – I donot agree with her in this asI have done some research and usin amalgam is highly toxic etc. This lady is an NHS dentist will she be properly trained in inserting composite fillings?
She also reluctantly polished 2 of my teeth as she said the others were fine lthough in the £17 paid it does say you are entitled to a tooth polish, afterwards I was not even offered a mouth swill! I have therefore lost my confidence in going back for the appointment for treatment and am in a dilemma as to what to do.
I would appreciate some advice from you please.
Many thanks

I am receiving mixed information about dental sealants for children, what is you opinion?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

Hello,

We live outside but very near London. My daughter (8 years old) was recommended to have dental sealants in her 4 molars by our private English dentist. She had this procedure done at about 5 months ago.
When visiting our doctors abroad recently, they warned me about the dangers of dental sealants in children. They even suggested to remove them. My question would be if it is possible to remove those without damaging her teeth or making the whole issue worse.
Would you be able to do this (remove her sealants)?
Also, I wonder when is really the main danger: at the moment of placing the sealing or during the following time where the seal can be leaking in her mouth.
Thanks in advance for your precious help and advice.

My receding gums are causing the enamel to wear away, can I have treatment to stop decay?

Monday, February 21st, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I have receding gums (I am 35) and on some of the front teeth the enamel is wearing away. I am concerned about getting cavities if this continues (as I have cavities on 3 wisdom teeth already). Is there anything I can do to prevent the gums receding but also protect the enamel i.e. can you have a small filling put over the place where the enamel has worn away?

Many thanks for your advice

One of my teeth is twisted, my dentist wants to remove it but i’m not sure if its worth it?

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011
Q.

My crown on tooth #19 needs to be replaced due to a large cavity under it. Tooth #20 is twisted by 90 degrees. My dentist wants to pull it and give me a bridge. The tooth doesn’t bother me and isn’t seen anyway; but my dentist says if I ignore it then it will eventually create other problems and may even end up breaking. Does this make since? I hate to have that work done if he is just being overly cautious.

Is the tooth movement affected if the tooth is restored?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
I started with my orthodontic treatment a week before and my upper two teeth have been extracted. now, adjacent to the extracted teeth on the proximal surface of premolar, I noticed a cavity, which is not approaching occlusal surface. I don’t have any sensitivity or pain. will my treatment be affected now? does tooth movement get affected if tooth is restored.?,
