I would like my teath whitened but my teeth have been damaged

Monday, April 6th, 2009
Q.
I would like my teath whitened but when I was a teenager and had my braces removed there was some damage and the dentist put something on to my teath to cover the damage – I think it was white filling / amalgam???. I also have quite a lot of exposed dentine near my gums. I know I am not suitable for veneers (I teath clench etc). Is there any way I can have my teath whitened, can whaever is on my frount teath be removed so they can be whittened ?

Hi! I have never had a cavity before. I clean my teeth well and have never had a problem. Recently, I have noticed that my back two bottom molars are slightly darker in the crevices. Does this mean that I have cavities?

my dentist has identified a cavity to the root at the rear and recommended a root canal filling before fitting veneer

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
I am considering 3 veneers to improve chipped and ugly front teeth. On the lateral incisor my dentist has identified a cavity to the root at the rear and recommended a root canal filling before fitting veneer, as he said it could lead to future problems – abscess etc. The tooth does not give me any pain and I am slightly concerned about the implications of root canal filling, weakening the tooth etc. Do you think the dentist is correct?

I have a very large filling in one of my upper rear teeth

Monday, December 8th, 2008
Q.
Hi, my question relates to crowns. I have a very large filling in one of my upper rear teeth (second from the back) my dentist thought the cavity was really a bit large to be filling but i didn’t want to lose the tooth so it was filled. I’ve been very careful with it and its lasted about 8 months but part of the tooth has now broken off, i assume this will only get worse and so my question is can the filling be ground down allong with the remaining tooth to support a crown, or does the filling have to be removed and the crown bonded just to the tooth as i don’t think there will be enough material to bond to if the filling is removed. thanks.
