Hi, i’m looking for a bit of advice on veneers

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi, i’m looking for a bit of advice on veneers. I’m an excempt dental patient and today went for a check up and the dentist said to me about gettting veneers done on the front 2 of my teeth as they are slightly discolured in comparison to my other teeth. I am assuming my dentise knows that i am excempt from paying, however i would love to have these done as i have heard and seen so many good reports. My problem is that i have been reading on internet that they are not covered by nhs and i’m now worried that i will have a bill that i simply can’t afford. Can the work on my teeth be carried out free of charge? Thanx

How can i correct tooth discoloration and front teeth are translucent are these about to crack?

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have had a root canal done about 13 years ago on one of my front teeth. Now, I am starting to see discoloration, and the tooth has a very little chip (which can’t really be seen). My question is do you have any suggestions what I can do to fix this problem of discoloration? Crown? Venners? Also, the rest of my front teeth are very thin on the bottom, also translucent. Do you what that may be from, and how can i avoid having problems with those teeth in the future? I just think that those teeth may be more prone to cracking? Is that true? Thank you very much for answering my questions.

Daughter’s veneer crown fell off

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
My daughter had 22K worth of dental work done in Dallas 5 years ago. Her porcelain veneer crown just to the side of her front teeth just fell out. Is this normal? Is her dentist obligated to fix it after this much time? She now lives in Boston. Even sharing the bill among three people was still enormous; we’d expect it to last. Are we expecting too much?

I have bridges and veneers and I want my teeth whitened

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have 2 false teeth, one at each side of my 2 front teeth, its a bridge, fitted to the back of my 2 front teeth. However the bridge was making my 2 front teeth appear darker, so my dentist put 2 veneers on my 2 front teeth aswell, to make them appear brighter. But what i wanted to ask was, i’d like to have a whole brighter whiter smile. And i know you wouldn’t be able to make my veneers whiter, unless i got new ones. Do you think i should get implants instead of these two veneers on both sides of my 2 front teeth, because then i won’t need the veneers on my front teeth, which will be good, as food keeps getting stuck inbetween the veneers. And i keep thinking my 2 front teeth will rot or somethin, because i’m not brushing them. But dentist says they’re fine. Do you have any clinics in Greenock, or near Greenock?

How long do veneers last

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Tenet Veneer treatments query Around the age of 10, my daughter had one of her teeth knocked out during an incident at an after school club. After several years of painful and uncomfortable treatments, she was considered viable for a more permanent solution almost 3 years ago. She had the damaged front tooth capped and the adjacent one matched with a porcelain veneer (cost £600, I was given a partial discount as she was a child) as well as fitted for a good gum shield for the sports she participated in at the time. This seemed to be the best long-term option for her, as opposed to what was available on the NHS, as I was advised that with the appropriate care of her teeth, she could expect up to 15 years, before further work would be required. This I felt would prevent further upsetting frequent work and restore her confidence for the future career in music and drama she wished to pursue. Now 17 ½, the veneered tooth has come off. This is the fourth time this has happened, the last time was around 15 months ago, when she was told categorically it should not happen again, and should present no further problems for 10+ years. There have been no problems at all with the capped tooth. Unfortunately, she is no longer registered with the same dental practice nor eligible for NHS care as she is almost 18, has left school before starting a university course in September (We live in Edinburgh). Any advice you can give me before we approach the dentist who did the work tomorrow, would be very helpful. She is very upset as she has always been exceptionally careful with her teeth and dental hygiene. I am concerned: he will not resolve the issue; charge a lot of money to fix it, which neither of us can afford; or we will be forced to get a less visually satisfactory cheaper nhs-subsidised option. Should the work be guaranteed, and if so for how long? Thank you in anticipation ~ Ruth Hughes
