Saturday, March 28th, 2009
Q.
I had an infection at one of my front tooth and i needed a root canal. My dentist did it but i still have some of the infection left as i can feel it. Because of the root canal my tooth discoloured slightly and i don’t like it.I would like to whiten it but i don’t know where to go for cosmetic dentistry. Also the tooth is moving slightly and i am scared not to lose it.i don’t know if it is moving because of the root canal or because of the infection.Do you think I should pay the money for the whitening or what treatment do I need?pls tell me will i lose my tooth because of the root canal or is it just weakened?thank you

Trigeminal Neuralgia and bacteria infection in the root

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
After having a root canal filling my tooth didn’t settle and I had to go back for a second time. Not long after I started having severe pain when pressure was put on the tooth.I had several visits to the dentist for a period of 2 years following this each time the dentist unable to find anything wrong. I developed severe pain in my face and on a visit to the doctor was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. That was now 4 years ago! On a recent visit to my dentist I mentioned to him that I felt the tooth still was causing me discomfort at times so he xrayed it. There seems to be a pocket of bacteria at one the roots of the tooth. He suggested having the tooth removed. My question is that if the bacteria has been there after all these years is it safe to remove the tooth and will i need anibotics after? Also do you think this may have been the cause of my trigeminal Neuralgia?

The filling in my teeth is causing pain

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
I had a white composite filling done two months ago on a back upper tooth. The dentist told me to expect some sensitivity as it was a large filling (and the drilling caused some sensitivity at the time) but the sensitivity is getting worse. Now when I eat or drink I get a dull radiating pain into my jaw which can last for up to an hour. I’m a little nervous that it might need a root canal, so I’ve been delaying calling and hoping it will resolve itself. I also think I might have exacerbated the sensitivity as I didn’t brush the filling well once it started being sensitive and someone told me this might actually have done more harm than good. I’ve started thoroughly brushing that tooth now (been doing this less than a week and still get pain, though not quite so often). Should I continue thorough brushing and see if the pain abates or is this pain a sign of something more serious and should I call my dentist?

im showing gums and black marks on my lower teeth

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008
Q.
My hygienist removed lots of plague on lower front teeth, exposing gum and black marks on my lower teeth. Spittal ? is coming through my lower teeth now when i talk, making me very self conscious, also with the gum recession, and the black marks which look like gaps, i need someone to help advise me on the next step. I am trying to stop smoking as i know this is not doing my gums any good. I take corsidil and eurofril mouth was every day, and gently brush my teeth, – no more scrubbing up and down. I hope i do not loose any lower teeth.

I fell flat on my face at the weekend and have broken two of my top front teeth

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008
Q.
I fell flat on my face at the weekend and have broken two of my top front teeth. I went to my dentist today and because one of them only has a small peice of tooth left in the gum and is quite painful she has said that I need a root canal and then it will need to to capped. She states that there is nothing they can do as a temporary fix and my first appointment for the root canal is 2 weeks away and then I will have to wait another two weeks for the trestment to be completed. The other tooth is slightly longer and she thinks that she can just fill it which concerns me as there will be a lot more filling than tooth and as it is my biting tooth Im worried the filling may fall out all the time and look a bit rough. Id rather pay more and have another cap or do you think a filling would surfice? The last thing I want is a dodgy job done, I want to look like I did before the fall! Is it true that there is no temporary measure they can do as I cant really have a month of work and there is no way I can go out in public like this!

what are the signs of a failed root canal treatment

Monday, October 20th, 2008
Q.
What are the signs of a failed root canal treatment – I have been advised that a 3rd canal in my tooth cannot be located (lower Molar 6) Part of the remaining tooth is totally black – can this be disguised with the permanent filling I`m to go back for in 6 weeks time – (why do I have to wait so long with a temporary filling – (no discomfort no pain ) Many Thanks for your time

how long does Root Canal Treatment last

Sunday, October 19th, 2008
Q.
I have done Root Canal Treatment about 13 years ago and about 6 years ago, my filling came out. I had the tooth to be fill up again by a dentist. However recently I started to have pain again and had my tooth checked by another dentist. The dentist took an X-ray of my teeth and from the x-ray, it indicates that my tooth that was treated with RCT had little swelling, hence caused my tooth aching again and the pain was unbearable at times. The dentist advised me to have another RCT treatment again. I was wondering isnt it RCT treatment can last life time? Your advise is highly appreciated. Thank you.

I was in a lot of pain before my root canal treatment

Thursday, September 25th, 2008
Q.
Hi I was in a lot of pain before my root canal treatment but after the first part of the treatment(which was very painful as the dentist said I had some inflamation) I felt no pain at all and it was like a miracle. During my second visit, the dentist spent a lot of time filing in part of my tooth which again was very painful. He then put three long wires into my tooth and took an xray and said he needed to file deeper next visit. He said he wouldn’t be able to root fill the tooth until all the pain had gone when filing inside my tooth.I had this treatment on Wed last week and I am still feeling v. sore. I am really disappointed as I thought all the pain would be over now. Is this normal for soreness to last so long after the second part of the treatment? The dentsit has put medication in my tooth (whatever that is?) What has hapened to the nerve in my tooth? Has the dentist removed/killed it? If so why do I still feel soreness. Many thanks

ive had root canal broken crowns and abscess

Thursday, August 14th, 2008
Q.
Hi There Rob, Please can you help me, I have had root canal done on a lower left molar 5 years ago and a crown was placed onto the root that was left – not very much as badly destroyed it fell out a few times in those years and we just glued it back into the socket, however when I got pregnant with my second daughter I developed an abcess around this molar and was able to take gentle anti-biotics till I had my daughter. The crown became loose a few days back and I told my dentist I wished to have an implant done as she could not recommend someone we agreed to have a denture fitted in the mean time and I would source a specialist dentist.I have had the root pulled on Thurs and she had to give me 3 injections as I could feel her trying to pull it out, she told the dental nurse that the root had broken but I presumed it was all out as she did not say that any root was left in. She fitted my denture and off I went. that evening when the numbness wore off I was in agony my jaw is swolen at the site where the tooth was extracted and my gum has a hard white lump on it almost like a sore I am not sure if this is root still in there or the abcess from before or a sore from the denture. I am unable to wear the denture as it is now too painful. I really want to get an implant and reading some peoples answers I see that a specialist in implants should have extracted my tooth I am really worried and dont know what to do. please can you advise. regards
