how long does Root Canal Treatment last

Q. I have done Root Canal Treatment about 13 years ago and about 6 years ago, my filling came out. I had the tooth to be fill up again by a dentist. However recently I started to have pain again and had my tooth checked by another dentist. The dentist took an X-ray of my teeth and from the x-ray, it indicates that my tooth that was treated with RCT had little swelling, hence caused my tooth aching again and the pain was unbearable at times. The dentist advised me to have another RCT treatment again. I was wondering isnt it RCT treatment can last life time? Your advise is highly appreciated. Thank you.

A. Nothing can last a life time- obviously depending on how long we all have!  Root treatments have a high success rate by can become reinfected – requiring a new RCT or even extraction of the tooth
