I’m experiencing dull pain after an implant has been fitted and I’ve has root canal work too. What can be done?

Monday, August 2nd, 2010
Q.
ever since having a dental implant fitted around a year ago, have had a dull ache on the gums around the implant, the dentist who fitted implant says its coming from the tooth next to the implant, so have had root canal work on the suggested tooth next to implant and am still feeling no better, can an implant give you pain after being fitted, and if so what can be done about it, I have never really liked the dentist that did the implant work, as he is very difficult to speak to, and just has no personality or patience where his work is concerned, he says its fine….but I still feel pain all the time…,

Should I get a second opinion?

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010
Q.
Following an abscess (and antibiotics) I had a root canal filling in October last year. My dentist told me that he hadn’t been able to fill all of it due to the location of the tooth. Recently a piece of this tooth broke off and I have more pain which he said wasn’t caused by the tooth breaking off. I am on another course of antibiotics and he says that it’s probably not worth trying to fill the tooth again and only option may be extraction which will cost between £400/£500! I have a morbid fear of dentists and cannot tolerate an xray being taken. I am due to return next week but I am dreading what he will say, should I get a second opinion?,

Do you know what could be causing the pain when I bite down?

Friday, April 9th, 2010
Q.
I recently (4 weeks ago) had a crown and veneer fitted on my front two top tooth for cosmetic reasons. The crown is fine and feels like a normal tooth but the veneer is painful whenever I bite into hard foods. It feels like a shooting pain from the pressure of biting into the food. I went back to my dentist and she said she didn’t know what was causing this but I’ve seen on the Internet it may now have to have a root canal treatment and a new veneer which I really cannot afford. It’s not to do with the bite alignment I don’t thin as that feels fine. Do you know why this might be happening and what might causing it?? Many thanks.,

Q.
I finished my root canal procedure about two weeks ago. I was eating and realized my tooth broke. The dentist didn’t advise me that my tooth would be extremely sensitive.I was suppose to go back for a crown eventually. Can I still get a crown over my chipped toth? What do you think the chances of saving my tooth are?,

What is the procedure for tooth extraction?

Friday, February 5th, 2010
Q.
approx 5 yrs ago I had a root canal and crown put on my lower “canine” tooth. I was referred to an endodontist for re-treatment root canal and he diagnosed it as extra canal invasive resorption and chronic apical periodontis. He advised that I have the tooth extracted because I would eventually lose it and get an implant. How would the extraction be done? Would they have to cut the crown off first then extract the tooth, or can they extract the tooth with the crown on it? Thank you,

Will root canal treatment make my teeth break even more?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009
Q.
Hi there, I have two very broken front teeth (on the bottom) which have looked awful every time I smile for years. Now they are starting to go grey so they look awful! They don’t hurt most of the time, one hurts when it gets cold but not all the time. The dentist has said I need root canal even though there is no evidence of infection etc and xray is clear. This tooth keeps breaking more every week. I am not bothered about undergoing pain but I want to get BOTH teeth looking nice and not half the size of every other front tooth. What would you suggest? Surely root canal will make them break even more?
