Will root canal treatment lessen pain caused by teeth with no enamel?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010
Q.
My 14 year daughter unfortunately had her four back teeth come through with no enamal on them, about 3 months ago we had to have a root canal treatment on one of them. She is now in pain again and the dentist has recommended that they try root canal treatment again, the tooth is crumbling away, and she is on anti biotics to try and clear the infection she also has a phobia with needles and dentists! Is another root canal treatment likely to work for her, or would it be best to extract the tooth? This is not an option that she wants as she does not want a gap in her teeth, but the pain she went through last time for it not to work, how many times will they try and do root canal before they say to extract it. Many thanks,

Is gum surgery and dentist advice accurate?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010
Q.
I have four crowns on my front teeth with root canal done more than 15 years sgo. As I was feeling some pain and pressue so my dentist told me that you have to redo root canal and than new crowns will be put. After root canal was done he said one of my front tooth( 11) which has post has no space on back for crown to be fixed so gum surgery is required to expose the root at least 5-6 mm and bone would also be cut. He said this type of treatment may not be good in long run so best option is to take out the teeth and do implant. He said if we do expose root now and cut the bone 5-6mm and crown is not stable after wards then impalnt is also difficult as some part of bone already ic cut. I need your opinion on this.,

Can root canal be avoided?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010
Q.
i had a deep white filling put into a lower molar tooth 8days ago. I had no pain initially but it has now started throbbing and aching to the point where i can feel the pain travelling up to my right ear at times. It is a deep filling and very close to the nerve and so im worried im going to have to go back and have root canal only one week after having the initial, expensive filling done. Is there another possibility for what could be causing this feeling and can root canal be avoided?,

Is it normal to still feel numbness after root canal treatment?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Q.
last Thursday 4/02/10 i had a root canal completed on UR2 tooth and now on Tues(/02/10 i am still experiencing a dull but at times intense aching. The severity of discomfort varies throughout the day from barely noticeable to quite severe radiating up into jaw. I havd been having problems for about 3 months with this tooth before my dentist decided to carry out the root canal. She said the procedure went well and was straight forward. Because i have Multiple Sclerosis she has said that if i continue to have problems with this tooth then i need to see my GP because it will be “to do with my condition”. Is this discomfort normal and if so how long should it last. What can i do next apart from have the toth extracted if this does not settle. Ps. the tooth feels ‘tender’ but not painful to the touch and there is no swelling but behind the tooth is also tender. I also clench my teeth at night and wonder if this could be a contributing factor. Sorry this is so long but i’m desperate to sort this problem once and for all. Many thanks,

What treatment should I get for tooth that has darkened?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Glaister. I am desperate for some professional help with my teeth. I would say my general dental appearence is good, however I have a dead single tooth at the upper front. This tooth was banged a few years back and as a result the nerve has shrunk up into my gum. When tested at the dentist I had a cold compression test and did not feel anything. My question is this, at present the tooth is discloured, (a yellow tinge)and due to increased brushing there is a dark mark at the top of my gum line. This hugely affects my confidence and will to smile. I have considered whitening treatments but am worried that because the tooth is dead and more discoloured it will stand out more, I have thought about veneers and other dental surgery but get told different things each time. what would you suggest, im really upset and need some honest, professional advice and direction.,

What treatment can I have for crack in root canal?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010
Q.
I was having pain in my only tooth with a root canal and a crown, had it xrayed by my dentist and was told I had a crack through the root canal tooth and would need it removed and a bridge applied, what would happen if I did nothing with this tooth, I have always favored it, and it doesn’t seem to bother me too much now (only with a sinus infection I had). Thank you,

My dentist recommends a root canal but Im nervous because I want to know the success rates and to know how long I can expect the root canal to last. I do not want to pay for root canal then six months later pay for something else on it.,

Value your advice on replacing tooth after root canal?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
Q.
I have had a root canal on my bottom front tooth but I am still having problems with the nerve below the tooth. I am thinking of having the tooth removed (its discoloured now) and having a bridge fitted. What would you recommend ?,
