Is there orthodontist treatment provided in Bedfordshire NHS?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Julian Caplan My front 4 teeth are quite pronounced, which makes me very depressed and I have lost a lot of confidence. I always smile with my mouth closed and will always try and cover them up as much as possible. I had a brace when I was younger for around 2 years, which helped immensley but eventually they have just slowly moved back (not to the extent of when I was a child), but it’s got to a point where I am extremely conscious. I have spoken with my dentist who has put me in touch with a local orthodontist but the cost is way out of my price range. Is there anyone I can contact to see if I can have it done on the NHS, or perhaps a scheme where the NHS make a contribution? I am desperate to have this sorted as it is making me very unhappy. I live in Bedfordshire, I am 25 and work full time. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Can I have braces on my veneers

Saturday, April 4th, 2009
Q.
When I was younger I had a slight gap in my front two teeth and an overbite, but for the most part the rest of my teeth were very straight. At 15, I had veneers put on my front two teeth to close the gap. I’m now, 4 years later, regretting getting them instead of braces because I’m still not happy with my teeth. My top gums show a lot when I smile. Is there any way that I can still get braces to improve my smile without hurting the veneers? Thanks,

I am 21 years old and have a bilateral crossbite.

Saturday, April 4th, 2009
Q.
I am 21 years old and have a bilateral crossbite. My maxilla is very narrow and it is only realised recently about the possibilty of having it corrected. I was wondering about the time scale of a procedure (roughly) to finish with the braces. I understand a device has to be used to expand the maxilla first so I was concerned about the length of time the course of treatment would take. Any estimate would be much appreciated, thanks

in last recent years my teeth have moved and now don’t meet, i have no bite at all

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
Q.
Hi, at the age of fourteen my mouth was too crowded so i had 2 teeth taken out from the top and 2 from the bottom, it was needed at the time but in last recent years my teeth have moved and now don’t meet, i have no bite at all, i can sometimes be in agony, it always leads to root canal or nerve etc etc but the main problem is now my jaw line! My dentist is very good and gave me a mouth piece which has prevented the pain and somehow the pain isn’t as bad, plus i don’t grind my teeth as much but i felt i needed a second opinion, the second dentist told me that he could do nothing for me but that i would have to see a orthodontist but the only solution he had was that i would have to get my jaw broken? to me, this is a little severe? have you any advice or solution
