After suffering from Periodontist I need a new set of teeth. Help?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes
I suffer from Periodontist in the most advanced form I have lost seven teeth in the top and a lot more are loose. I did receive treatment in the newcastle dental hospital and they got it under control. They say that i have to stop smoking because it will make it worse. I see my dentist every 3 months for a scale and polish but i am not happy with the treatment i am receiving. He made me two sets of teeth in the last year and i cannot wear them. My bite does not meet. So I am know going to go to a private cosmetic dentist and wonder if you know if i can get a full set of cobalt chrome dentures made.
thank you

What can I do about my horrible teeth?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

Just a message as I am stuck with what to do and where to turn ..
I am 22 years old, and I can safely say that I highly doubt you’ve seen teeth as bad as mine, 97 year old’s probably have better teeth. As a result I have no confidence and avoid talking to people, I rarely smile and it gets me down on a daily basis.

Due to a sever phobia of dentists, I haven’t been to one since I was a young child, as a direct result my teeth have suffered. To add to this, through most of high school I suffered with bulimia. I have lost the majority of my back teeth, and have two very broken molars. I also have a gap between my two front teeth. I’ve never really looked into getting them fixed due to the high costs. I’m not sure where to go or what to do, but I do realise as I am only 22 that my mouth can only get worse, therefore I need to act. I’m just not sure how I’m going to cover the costs, some advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks

Can you have two teeth together replaced by a dental bridge?

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I have a question for you: I have a lower plate with two back teeth on one side and one tooth on the other. Ideally I would like to replace this with dental bridges as the denture is not comfortable. My dentist has told me that it isn’t possible to have two teeth together replaced by a dental bridge. Can you tell me whether or not this is the case?

I have advanced Periodontitis, are dentures my best option?

Monday, June 6th, 2011
Q.

Hi
I have advanced Periodontitis and have been told that the pockets after having treatment for three years are still 12mm + deep in some areas. The shift in my teeth is quite horrendous especially the two front teeth which now have huge gaps between them and jut out quite badly so the bite is off. Its very embarrassing for me, once a gummy woman, now a long toothy one embarrassed to smile.

My dentist has told me that I could have the two front teeth (possible the ones either side) removed and to replace them with a partial chrome plate denture. I’m wondering whether there are other alternatives and if this is the right move at this stage?

Also if going down the road of having teeth extracted, wouldn’t a bridge work the same way and isn’t this available on the NHS? Won’t having a chrome partial denture affect the cleaning of the teeth?

I know that the bone in my jaw is not in good shape, so even if I had the money, implants wouldn’t be an option.

I am left with awful jutting teeth, with huge gaps and gums which seem to be disintegrating even though I try hard every day to keep on top of my health routine. Please can you tell me what the best options are? I’m worried I may make the wrong choice and have to live with being toothless.

Thank you

I don’t want dentures on my top and bottom teeth, what are my options?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

Have dentures on top. Lower teeth are killing me, gum trouble. Broken down teeth in back. A few missing. What are my options? Do not want dentures on bottom. Can barely stand the ones on top. On the bottom I have in the front, like 4 or 5 teeth. Then on both sides, some missing, then molars on both sides are broken down and in bad shape. Lots of pain. Isn’t there a way to adhere the denture so it will stay in? Or could it be possible for me to get a partial on the left and on the right, and then do something with the few teeth I have left in front?

I have sjogrens syndrome and my dentist tells me I need to have dentures. Other options?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

Hello doctor, I have sjogrens syndrome and now have a mouthful of crowns all of which are shifting and my dentist has said that in the near future they will have to be replaced. I do have one real tooth left which he is going to have to completely remove this month. The only options he has given me is a mouthful of dentures, which horrifies me at aged 39! My dentist thinks that implants will not work because of the sjogens and because periodically I have to take steroids. I just wondered what are your thoughts and experiences on implants and sjogrens patients? thank you for your time

Numerous health issues have lead to the deterioration of my teeth, what can I do?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

Hello, I am 20 and completely depressed about the state of my teeth, I feel embarassed, paranoid and have to cover my face to laugh as Im so embarassed. My career means I am always working with the public which makes everything harder. I can barely even eat theyre that bad.
I have very bad gum disease and the gum is receeding at the back of my front teeth, I have already lost most of my back teeth on each side and am in constant discomfort.
I try my hardest cleaning my teeth 3 times a day and used cordysl mouthwash to try n rid myself of gum disease, but as I am diabetic it seems to never heal.
I have also had stomach problems for over a year, which makes me vomit which aalso leads to my teeth weakening.
I know Ill be told I need dentures which I could not live with ,or I could pay for dental implants which I could never afford, I feel like my illnesses have caused all of the problems with my teeth. I have been on a liquid diet for weeks as I can no longer eat most solid food, this also compromises my diabetes. What advice do you have for me?

Q.

I Have 12 Teeth At The Top An I Believe I Am Suppose To Have 16 And They’re Are Gaps In The Front That Are Real Noticeable I Have A Gap In Between My Central Incisors I Am Missing My Lateral Incisors So I Have A Gap Between My Canine cuspid And First Bicuspid As Well What Do You Think I Should Do? I Do Not Want Implants Thats Too Much Of A Wait Game I Just Want My Gaps Gone With No Drilling Or Pain. I Am Embarrassed To Smile I Cover My Teeth When I Laugh. I Just Want To Be Able To Take A Picture With A Beautiful Smile. That Would Boost My Confidence Up High.
