Should I get implants, a bridge, or a combination?

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011
Q.

My Bridge has broken and has over the last few years come out more regularly, my dentist who is a NHS has told me that I need to get a plate fitted and wants to remove my teeth which have been subject to root canal surgery so are just stumps in my gums now, I can afford to go private but my question is a plate (3 teeth) best or is it best to have implants or something else done, my Bridge is a 2 prong either side (one has broken off) with a extra tooth in the middle, so a 3 gap bridge, also if I have the bridge will I be able to eat properly thanks

Can I get Dental Implants on the NHS?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
Q.

Hi Andrew, I unfortunately had to have my second to front tooth removed in June last year as it had fractured and was not considered suitable to save. I wanted to have an implant immediately, but after xrays ti was found that I did not to have sufficient bone in the upper part of my gum to do this. I was advised to wait at least 6 – 12 months before proceeding. During this time I have been wearing a plate with a false tooth. This is very uncomfortable and despite using a fixitive it moves and irritates my palette, causing discomfort. I have had enough and really want an implant to give me back some confidence. I have no idea how i fractured my tooth in the first place, but it was covered with a veneeer, and i wondereed if this could have caused the fracture by weakening the tooth? I want the implant desperately but the cost is a huge factor, having already spent £2’500 on 4 veneers in the last few years I cannot afford to spend more! Could I get it done on the NHS as it is a visable tooth and is negatively affecting my self esteem?

My son broke his teeth in an accident, how can this best be rectified?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
Q.

My son (20yrs old) fell and hit his 2 front teeth and 1 tooth on the side of front teeth. The side tooth has truned black (they want to do rtc and crown. 1 front tooth got pushed back (blowed the socket) and has a crack up in the gum and broke about half of it off, but it is still white (they want to pull and put in a bridge). The other one is half broke off (they want to fill). This was done two days ago. I would like to know if there is any other solutions that would be better. Please let me know.

I’ve had a quote for an implant, will it be a bit like a denture?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

I have no back teeth aton my lower gum.

I could have a denture plastic or metal do not fance any of these but I am putting a lot of pressure on my front teeth.
I have been quoted about 2,000 pound for an implant does this mean there will be teeth on this like a denture.

Do you happen to know if dental students (or NHS) require anyone to practice fitting a full top jawbone of implants?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

Do you happen to know if dental students (or NHS) require anyone to practice fitting a full top jawbone of implants? I was a Police officer who lost most of my top jawbone teeth trying to break up a large fight (resulting from an assault) when a group turned on my colleague and me. I was fitted with a bridge, as I was unable to cope with a plate (I could not stop gagging, was unable to speak properly, and lost a serious amount of weight during that time). Many years later, I broke my back (representing my country in the high jump) and required to lay flat for over ten years (obviously in that time unable to have dental treatment).
Nowadays, I am at least on crutches (having had a spinal stimulator fitted, albeit a faulty one)but my back used to ‘go’ quite frequently and having fallen quite a few times my bridge got broken, not to mention all the cuts and bruises. I am utterly terrified of having a full denture and simply cannot afford to have any dental treatment (probably other than a plate) as I am on disability allowance; therefore, I have been attempting ‘home’ dentistry. One of the teeth that held one side of the bridge, I drilled into and fitted with a post (part of a metal coat hanger) whilst the other tooth I super glued but unfortunately I am required to redo them maybe once/twice a week. I know this is not good, not to mention the fumes when I have to use the glue (I can feel it filling my lungs).
All I want is to be able to eat reasonably and have a nice smile again. I am just so paranoid of people looking at my teeth I do not leave the house at all in case I have to speak or feel the need to smile (serious self-esteem issues).
Do you happen to know of anyone who would/could help me in any way?
I would be eternally grateful!
Best regards,
