My latest (NHS) dentist says a crown can’t be fitted because the tooth is filled too low below the gum line

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
Q.
Had a cracked tooth deep filled and was told if this failed I could have a crown fitted. The tooth is now causing problems, but my latest (NHS) dentist says a crown can’t be fitted because the tooth is filled too low below the gum line. Is this likely to be correct – I’m worried that financial considerations within the practice may be limiting the options they offer.

The filling on my sons chipped tooth does not last for more than a year

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
My 17 year old son chipped his front tooth – not a large chip but it’s jagged and it bothers me. I had a dentist ‘fill’ the chip for $240. It lasted about a year and fell off. I had it repaired again, another $240 and it fell off, this time only after 2 months. I have two neices that have had chips bonded on their front teeth, they have lasted years each. Of course I’m going back to their dentist next time. Would I be out of line insisting that this last filling be repaired for free?

My sons tooth is chipped and he finds it sharp while inhaling and is painful when cold fluid is in contact

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
My 9 year old lad has chipped his front tooth after hitting a wall. He jhas lost about 25% of the tooth and is in no real pain. He does however find it sharp when inhaling through his mouth and painful when cold fluid hits it. What is the best course of action to take? It is his 2nd tooth so no more to come through. As his father, I am quite anxious. Regards

I feel my health is being compromised by my amalgam fillings

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hi I am a thirty year old woman and feel my health is being compromised by my amalgam fillings. I recently broke one chewing on a toffee bar and after having it patched, literaly weeks after I developed a sinus cold which developed into a secondary chest infection. I have developed many symptoms in the last few years including asthma and hayfever and I now believe I am allergic to mercury as my doctor has no explanation for my reoccuring illnesses. How do I broach this subject with my dentist? Kind Regards

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hi ,, last year i paid for private treatment (mainly dental fears) i had sedation my dentist whom i had only met once did the so called work part denture , im not even sure what its called he removed teeth , left my 2 fang teeth in covered them with gold caps and placed denture over these ..sadly these 2 cold teeth have fallen out i managed to pop 1 back in, so my denture is now holding on only by the 1 tooth , i cant eat, cant go out for meals or invite anyone round .sadly eating is very uncomfortable really wish i would never have had the work done , previous to this treatment i had a aprt denture fitted by another dentist (private)found this ok but my last dentist filed it somehow to fit my top new denture and its never sat right since, it had managed to chip a filling on the bottom , sadly last nigth the full filling on the bottom come out with a needle type pin attached to it , i now have a huge hole ive rang dental line they say go to boots n fill it myself !! not just the loose filling im totally in fear off going through it all again

Was the abscess caused by filing the tooth?

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
I saw my dentist 2 months ago for a check up and whilst i was there i mentioned i had a sensitive tooth. the dentist diagnosed a high point and filed it down. he said it would be a little sensitive for a while. he said my oral hygeine was excellent and teeth in good condition.but a week ago i developed very bad tooth ache in the same tooth and went back to the dentist who said id need a root canal filling. on my visit today my tooth was x rayed and i was told i have an abscess and the dentist also said that the root was not straight. he showed me the x ray and started the root canal treatment. my tooth is extremely painful now, i cannot put pressure on it. was the abscess caused by filing the tooth? it states on most of these websites that absesses are caused by bad oral hygeine but that was not something i have? will the treatment work being as the root is not straight?
