My two filled teeth are extremely sensitive do i need a root canal?

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009
Q.
Back in May I had to have my two top wisdom teeth pulled. They were bothering me so they needed to go. Upon examination and x-rays I was told I needed two fillings as well where I had pretty much already had fillings before. I went ahead and had those done as to not cause problems in the future. After the treatment the two teeth that had fillings have been EXTREMELY sensitive to hot and cold to where it would be an 8 for me on a scale of 1-10 in pain. I can’t drink drinks with ice without a straw, biting into freshly cooked hot food is uncomfortable and they will start to throb. I went back to the dentist who said they were big fillings so that may be the problem and suggested I just not drink or eat anything hot or cold (which I think is asburd, I mean who will never drink an ice cold drink in their life again?) Anyways, she said that if it didn’t get better she might have to do a root canal. My problem is, I didn’t have this problem until she said I needed them filled. There was no sensitivity or pain or anything. Now I have it and need a possible root canal? I’m just not sure this is the case and I feel maybe she did something wrong. I read soemwhere that if you don’t keep I think the tooth or the bonding moist that the middle part gets dehydrated and can be sensitve? Do you agree with the dentist or should I have a second opinion to make sure the root canal isn’t my only option? I just don’t trust the dentists solution but then again I don’t know much about dentistry.

Is it right to join the two teeth together with one caps rather than individual caps

Monday, August 3rd, 2009
Q.
I had 2 caps done that I wasn’t really sure about the way they did it. That is, they joined the two teeth together, rather than making them individual caps.

My bottom row of teeth is touches the inside row of teeth advice

Saturday, August 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi, Ive recently been to the dentist and have always had good teeth with no pain or alignment issues. But during my last visit my dentist said that my bottom row of teeth is making contact with the inside of my top row of teeth at the front. There has been some minor wear and my dentist says over time it will get to the point where the top teeth could break. Is there any treatment that is available for me and is it at all likely that my teeth could break over time? Thank you

There was a hole beginning in one of my lower teeth should ive fillings?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009
Q.
Two years ago my dentist told me there was a hole beginning to form in one of my lower teeth (approx 4th from the back. I asked him what could be done, and he said “Nothing – we wait until it gives trouble and take it out.” This was my first visit to this dentist (my previous dentist having died)and I was uneasy about the answer. On my last vist, I asked whether it could be filled, but he said no, and gave a technical explanantion which made no sense to me, as a layman. Can I seek a second opinion with a dentist in another practice? Many thanks

Is there a negative effects of drilling away the amalgam fillings?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009
Q.
2-3 years ago, my last molar on the left side had a big cavity and reached the nerve. my dentist advised me to do a root canal but i decided not to and asked her to do a filling instead. i did a composite one, and another time when it wore down, and switched to amalgam the third time when it had to be replaced (just this year). now, part of my amalgam filling has chipped off. i am not sure how big the chip is in comparison to the cavity but i don’t feel any pain. i think my dentist will want to replace it again but i am concerned about the negative effects of drilling away the amalgam (it releases harmful mercury vapour). what should i do? should i still get the filling replaced? can the chipped part just be filled up with another filling?
