Q.
Hi, I had a concave part in my front teeth (probably from braces I took out ten years ago) and recently there was a tiny deposit spot on it. I asked my dentist what that was while he was working on my other tooth (he had already checked my teeth twice that week, so I knew it wasn’t a decay), and he said he would take care of it in a second. Next thing I know he is drilling my front tooth, or something, and still I’m thinking he is polishing the spot. But it really hurt and I raised my hand several times for him to stop. Then I heard them talk about what color is best, and I said I need to ask a question about this color business, and he said he would answer me in a sec. And then finally he let’s me talk, and I’m like, was this even a cavity? he says oh, eventually it would have become a cavity. And I’m like, I wanted to whiten my tooth, now what is that going to do to this filling you put in my front tooth, and he says, no problem we’ll change the filling. I didn’t want the filling to begin with! Now my question: Is it healthier to leave this filling in and live with it, or should I go to another dentist and remove it (polish underneath and fluoride? ). He swore he didn’t go through the enamel and only scratched the surface so that the filling would adhere. Now the surface was already concave, naturally or from my braces, and the drilling to scratch did hurt, but he said my teeth are just sensitive. I would really appreciate your help. I’m going crazy with worry. will this filling cause my tooth to break easier with hot and cold, or make it more susceptible to decay? will removing it now, as opposed to in a few years have any effect on the enamel underneath? I believe he used normal composite filling.
