Do you know what could be causing the pain when I bite down?

Friday, April 9th, 2010
Q.
I recently (4 weeks ago) had a crown and veneer fitted on my front two top tooth for cosmetic reasons. The crown is fine and feels like a normal tooth but the veneer is painful whenever I bite into hard foods. It feels like a shooting pain from the pressure of biting into the food. I went back to my dentist and she said she didn’t know what was causing this but I’ve seen on the Internet it may now have to have a root canal treatment and a new veneer which I really cannot afford. It’s not to do with the bite alignment I don’t thin as that feels fine. Do you know why this might be happening and what might causing it?? Many thanks.,

Can my wife have her teeth whitened if she has a cap on her front teeth?

Friday, April 9th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Solanki, My Wife has a cap on one of her front teeth. Can she have her teeth whitened and keep the cap (thirty years old) which is of good quality and design? I’d like to have her teeth whitened for her birthday in May. Regards, John.,

Can you make a rough crown feel smooth?

Friday, April 2nd, 2010
Q.
When my crown was put in, the dentist had to grind the top of it to fit against the opposing tooth. While doing that he also ground the side of the crown that faces my tongue – not for fit, I think he just slipped. I told him it felt rough (no anesthesia), so he grinded the whole side of the crown to smooth the scratches. It is still rough, not smooth and polished like normal teeth or the other side of the crown, which he did not grind. I find myself rubbing my tongue on it (which has actually made my tongue sore – obsessive, I know!). I am wondering if it is common practice to grind the side of the tooth and if it is possible to put some sort of enamel on it to give it a smooth surface?,

How often do titanium posts break?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010
Q.
About 2 years ago, I had a crown on one of my front tooth. It had a titanium post as a part of the buildup. About a year after, I noticed that the tooth was getting loose. I complained to the doctor and was told that it looked like the root was getting loose. …about a month ago the tooth had broken. Upon an examination, it was determined that the root was fine, but the titanium post was broken. My question is: assuming titanium posts a very durable, how often do they break, if ever. Thank You, Mark,
A.
It is rare but they can break

Crowns or veneers?

Friday, March 26th, 2010
Q.
Hello I have 4 root canals done in the front teeth and one of them turned so dark over 15 years that not the dentist put a pin inside the canal and completely removed the tooth. I think he used the white filling to create a fake tooth for the time being. I am facing a dilemma now. From experience I know the other 3 teeth will turn dark too. I need to look at my options. Crowns or veneers. I would hate to invest the money into veneers if the dark colour will be visible from underneath? Do you think crowns will be better for me? especially because the teeth are in the front I would really love to finally have a smile I always dreamed of and not a horror story and empty wallet with dark teeth. Please help me I am not concerned about my teeth being grinded down. I just want white beautiful teeth that will last for many many years,

What are the optiond for me keeping my teeth looking white and real?

Friday, March 26th, 2010
Q.
I had an accident when I was a teenager and after 23 one of my front teeth started to turn grey. I ended up getting both my top front teeth root canals and bleached from the inside. It’s been about 5 years since I’ve had that done and one tooth is starting to look lightly grey again. I don’t have crowns and I find my dentists aren’t clear on my options and the risks. I want to keep my teeth looking white and real, is this realistic? What are my options!?,
