If I got a denture to replace a broken crown, would I be able to have an implant later on if I didn’t like it?

Monday, August 16th, 2010
Q.
I had a seven crowns fitted in 1978 to replace my front teeth. On monday one of these crowns snapped off leaving the remainder of the tooth insitu. My dentist told me that an implant would be quite expensive and suggested a denture on a plate which is currently being made on the NHS. He told me that in a week or so time he would need to remove the remainder of the tooth and fixtures from that area. What I would like to know is if this is done and I cannot get on with the denture could I then have an implant done, should I find somewhere reasonably priced. Many thanks,

What role did cotton wool have on my decaying tooth over a period of fifteen years?

Monday, August 16th, 2010
Q.
15yrs or so ago I had a dead nerve in my upper left 2 ….the dentist at the time recommended a crown. Whist my crown was being made i was fitted with a temporary crown. Recently this crown came loose so I went to my new dentist to have this re-glued. To my horror the tooth inside the crown was rotten and was beginning to rot my front tooth. I had been complaining to the dentist that there was a smell coming from the tooth. The dentist discovered that on what was lef of my tooth was a lot of cotton wool ….which appears to have been left from the temporary tooth back 15yrs ago. What I want to know is what role did this cotton wool have on my tooth decay (there was a lot of cotton wool) ?……or why would my tooth rot like this as I have great oral hygiene?,

I am due to have a crown fitted but I am suffering from pain in the tooth nerve. Should I have root canal treatment?

Monday, August 16th, 2010
Q.
One of my back teeth has recently git damaged and I was told by my dentist that I would need a crown. He sprayed the back tooth to see if the nerve was still active, and I nearly hit the roof as it was so painful, my dentist said he had to do that to see if the nerve was ok. My dentist has ground down the tooth ready for the crown, and Im due to have the crown fitted on Friday, but since yesterday I have had cronic pain around that tooth, it feels very nervy and painful, should I have had a root canal? and will it be ok to just add a crown over the nerve? Id hate to have a crown fitted and then suffer with this pain. Thanks,

I have always suffered from a total phobia of the dentist, but my whole mouth is in pain. Can you please help me?

Q.
Please help i`m so down about my teeth, i have always suffered from a total phobia since having a horrific incident with a dentist as a child, i used to have sedation when i had treatment but the dentist left and they stopped doing it, i seen his replacement who dropped the drill on my bottom teeth and split 2 of them, also knocked out my crown, she replaced the crown with a temp one and after 2 yrs still never replaced it, so now i have one that wiggles, just been to a new mhs dentist who removed a back tooth !!! and left the wiggling crown and split, and now those 2 bottom damaged teeth have completely split, so my whole mouth is aching, it`s really getting me down as i can`t seem to find a dentist who actually cares, and since being made redundant i can`t afford private care, please help i would be so grateful for some advice,

I have had three consultations and I’ve been recommended different options concerning bridges and implants. Can you help?

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010
Q.
I have a failing bridge which involves my ur1,2 and 3. UR3 needs to be extracted. I have been for 3 consultations for an implant to replace UR3 2 dentists have recommended an implant in 3 with a cantilever bridge on it to replace missing ur2. UR1 needs a root canal and a new single crown. However, one other dentist has said a cantilever bridge wouldnt be a good option as it could be too much pressure on the single implant over time, he insists 2 implants is better and would be gauranteed to last a lot longer. Im now wondering why the other dentists havent suggested two implants or is the third dentist just trying to make more money.,

Is there such a thing as a half crown, because I’m not sure if my new crown is correct?

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010
Q.
Hi there, I just had a crown fitted (6 upper left!), when the dentist pushed it in I heard a crack!, I thought maybe it broke in half, but he did not say a thing about it. Then he applied some “cement” and my crown has a 45 degree “cemented” line across it??? I believed crown should cover the whole of the tooth. When I went back 3 days (for a filling, on the other side of my mouth) later and questioned him about it he said that it was because of the angle of the crown to fit the remaining tooth. So basically I would like to know if there is such things as “half” crown basically, also the base of that crown is not very “tooth shape”, but he told me that was fine… Could you enlight me regarding this matter. Thank you for your time and consideratin.,

Would it be possible to remove my healthy remaining front tooth and get a bridge?

Monday, August 9th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I have already had cosmetic surgery to help straighten my teeth, one front tooth was knocked out and then I had the three remaining front teeth shaped down for a crown, however I still am very unhappy with the way I look (I have an 8-10mm overbite, partly due to the fact my lower jaw needs to be brought forward) what I would like to know is, even though I know dentists don’t like doing it, if it would be possible to remove the remaining front tooth (as it’s the front tooth that’s causing the problem) & then replace this with a straighter bridge?,

Do I go for the crown or should I leave it and seek an implant in the future?

Monday, August 9th, 2010
Q.
I would like to know if you really recommend to have a crown done after a root canal. I have all my teeth and they all look good, I am 39 years old, and had a small decay in one of my back tooth (so said the dentist) and after having the filling done my face became distorted and I got an infection that lasted few weeks. The problem is now sorted, I changed dentist and had to do a root canal. Because the treatment took too long, I ended up losing quite a bit of my tooth during the treatment. The dentist now said that I will need a crown to strengh my tooth. I am not keen on that as I think more of my tooth will be gone after that. The tooth looks fine to me. What should I do? I am originally from Brazil where we value a lot our teeth, being toothless there means you belong to a lower class or that you don’t hve good personal care. Please what should I do? Go for the crown or just leave it and wait if my tooth breaks in the future and seek an implant or something like that? Woud veneer be any good? thanks,

I want to close the gap between my two front teeth and maybe have them whitened. What can be done and how much will it cost?

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010
Q.
My top set of teeth are fine, the main thing i want to amend is my gap between the front two, and to file the rest so they are more rounded and finish with whitening. Can you give me a rough idea as to how much this would cost and what procedure would be carried out? Thankyou,
