Is there any treatment available for my two worn down teeth?

Friday, March 19th, 2010
Q.
Dear Andrew, I have 2 very worn down teeth in the lower jaw at the front, I feel my jaw has lost some height and also the edges of the teeth are rough and are very uncomfortable! The dentist says any filling would come off so he won’t fill them. I am on a budget, what treatment would help?,

The one onmy lower right 7 is ok and the crown is flush to the tooth left underneath, The one on the 6 next to is has a small gap at the back between the tooth and the crown. Is this ok or do I need to have it refitted. My dentist said it is ok as long as you floss it.,

Any advice on knocked out tooth?

Friday, March 19th, 2010
Q.
I have fallen over and knocked out 1 front tooth which was put back what I thought was successfully 2 years ago. I am now told that it is being rejected. It is a rather prominent tooth. What is the best route to take and what would be the approximate cost? Thank you,

Is there any treatment for a missing front tooth?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010
Q.
I have had one of my front teeth removed 2 months ago. My dentist had a plate made up for me which makes me sick every time I where it. I have been informed by my dentist that I cannot have a bridge made because the front tooth that remains is a crown with a metal post and the remaining bone where the other tooth was has been effected? I would like to have a second opinion on this as I cannot go about any longer with a missing front tooth (It is driving me mad),

I had root canals but should I consider implants?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010
Q.
About 5 years ago I had an accident that required restoration to my front top teeth. I have one missing incisor because of that accident as well that is now bridged. I had root canals on 4 teeth that are now starting to need retreats because of infection. I’ve also been told that there is some decay on one tooth that might require a reconstruction of the whole bridge area. I have a few questions, 1. should a root canal last longer than 5 years? 2. How does tooth decay happen on a root canaled/crowned tooth and is it preventable? 3. I was 25 when the accident happened and was never offered the implant option, should that be something I consider now? Thank you in advance for your answers.,

My filling came off twice would I get a cap on the tooth under the guarantee?

Monday, December 21st, 2009
Q.
I recently had my front tooth chipped (october) and since then I have had it filled twice. It has now fallen out again which is getting quite annoying. The filling come with a year guarantee but I was wondering if there was a possibility of my dentist putting a cap on the tooth under the guarantee or do you think I would have to pay?

Are the crowns the only solution for my strange bite

Friday, December 18th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr. Caplan I have a strange bite where my teeth only touch at the very back. I have had this since childhood and have learnt to compensate accordingly (no problems eating etc.). I am now 34 and my new dentist advised there are too choices, surgery – which I would rather avoid especially since the reults are not a given and secondly to crown the teeth and create a new bite. This would mean crowning 10 teeth on the top and ten on the bottom. My dentist says it would change the way I speak (get rid of my slight lisp) and correct my bite and prevent it worsening over time and over-crowding of the teeth. Are crowns the right solution? 20 crowns seems very extensive and no doubt expensive! What problems could I forsee? Will I develop problems in the future if I do not do this? How long with crowns last? Thank-you!

What are the pros and cons of having posts added to root canals?

Friday, December 18th, 2009
Q.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of having posts added to root canals? If it is not absolutely necessary, would it be wiser to wait? At what age do dentists start advising people to add posts? I have had a few front crowns for a few decades now. Thanks!!
