Would it be possible to remove my healthy remaining front tooth and get a bridge?
Q. Hello, I have already had cosmetic surgery to help straighten my teeth, one front tooth was knocked out and then I had the three remaining front teeth shaped down for a crown, however I still am very unhappy with the way I look (I have an 8-10mm overbite, partly due to the fact my lower jaw needs to be brought forward) what I would like to know is, even though I know dentists don’t like doing it, if it would be possible to remove the remaining front tooth (as it’s the front tooth that’s causing the problem) & then replace this with a straighter bridge?,
A. This is a possibility, however, most dentists dislike extracting sound teeth for cosmetic purposes. the drawbacks in doing so, can lead to a gum defect in that area- as the bone and gum shrinks back after a tooth has been taken out. This can sometimes leave a gap above the bridge over time. I would stress your concerns with your dentist and explore all of your options before making a definitive decision.
