I have a small chip in one of my front teeth

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008
Q.
I have a small chip in one of my front teeth. As it’s not too big (and my front teeth are quite large) filing the front two teeth would seem to me like the simplest and cheapest way to go about fixing this. Does this kind of treatment even exist and if so what are the prices? I also know the cause of the chip and it comes from another tooth on the bottom of my mouth that sticks out a little and the chip was obviously caused by that as this tooth fits in the chip. So i’d need to get that sorted too.

I have had a succession of bad luck with having crowns

Friday, October 31st, 2008
Q.
I have had a succession of bad luck with having crowns on my two upper front teeth. I am at present, seeing a fourth dentist to try and rectify the situation. I had temporary crowns fitted that were fabricated by the fourth dentist based on the ones that were fitted by the third dentist. My problem is that the crowns do not seem to go right up to the gum (at the back, not front). They are also both quite sharp at the tops on the back of the crowns. I am catching my tongue on them a lot when I speak or swallow. My tongue seems to naturally rest on the tops of the crowns at the back also. I am experiencing a kind of burning/stinging sensation above the backs of the crowns and my tongue is covered in tiny bright red dots at the tip of the tongue. The fourth dentist is of the opinion that I should now look at having orthodontic work carried out. This would be to rectify the gaps that I have to the teeth either side of my two front teeth and also to push the two front teeth back. He has told me that I will need to continue wearing tempory crowns whilst having the orthodontic treatment done. I dont understand why I cant have the all porcelain permanent crowns fitted before having orthodontic work done. Is this standard practice? Could I be experiencing this discomfort and pain because the temporary crowns are not fitting right up to the gum margins at the back? I am seeing the dentist tomorrow as I am now getting exasperated at being in such constant discomfort with temporaries. I was suffering from this complaint with the temporary crowns that I had fitted beforehand and this has now been going on for nearly two months in all. The reason being that the first dentist left me in considerable discomfort and I lost confidence in him. The second dentist managed to crack the back of the right temporary crown and I was experiencing a lot of pain in the right tooth. I was referred to Bristol Dental Hospital and at the time had severe swollen glands and pain in the right tooth. He took an xray and could find no signs of infection from this but seemed to be of the opinion that I needed a root canal treatment. I went to the fourth dentist for a second opinion on this and he removed the temporary crowns and did a sensitivity test. He thinks I may need a root canal at some point as the tooth seems to be hypersensitive. If a tooth behaves in this way, is this irreversable? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

what is the cost of composite on a chipped tooth

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
Q.
How much should I expect to pay for a bit of composite on a chipped tooth? My dentist seems to charge whatever goes and he never seems to have a clear cut pricing policy, although he is extremely good at what he does, hence he can charge whatever he likes! I’d just like to know what normal dentists charge. Thanks

I recently had a crown on one of my front teeth break

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
Q.
I recently had a crown on one of my front teeth break off. My dentist told me there isn’t much she can do since the titanium post snapped in half and part of it is still in the tooth. I am wondering if there are any treatments or procedures that would allow a new crown to be placed in? What other options do I have aside from extraction of the tooth?

My daughter, who is only 7 years badly chipped her front teeth

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008
Q.
My daughter, who is only 7 years badly chipped her two front teeth, losing about a half of one tooth and a third of the other. These are her 2nd teeth and therefore the dentist has stated that until she is over 16 she will require fillings to be placed on to the teeth in order that they will appear normal. In order for the fillings to be strong the dentist has advised that she will need to have pins placed into her teeth and the fillings will then be attached to these pins as well as her teeth. Obviously we want to ensure she gets the best and correct treatment possible so can you advise if the pins are a routine way of dealing with this situation considering there has been such amajor loss of tooth. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

do you know a cosmetic dentist in chennai

Sunday, October 26th, 2008
Q.
Dear Dr Komai Suri, The website looks really good and useful and is the first I have seen of this kind. I want to ask what I should or could do about my teeth which have been worn down by grinding at night. I’m 28 and have now started to wear a mouthguard. The tips of my front teeth are transparent and sometime shatter due to years of wear during the night. My dentist at home would simply grind off the very end to make them even again..however this can’t go on for ever and I now notice the length as well as the transparency. Would veneers be an option if I was to continue with the mouthguard? The other and perhaps most important question is how I can find a very good dentist for this sort of things here in Chennai, India, where I am now teaching for the next 2 years. ? Do you know of anyone, or could you put me touch with someone who might know or what should I do. The thought of taking a gamble on this sort of thing is terrifying!! Thankyou in advance for any help you can offer

i chipped the corner of one of my veneers

Sunday, October 19th, 2008
Q.
I attende my dentist recently as i had chipped the corner of one of my veneers. The dentist suggested replacing the venner and also doing the other tooth so as to make them look natural. The teeth were prepared and the veneers fitted and they fell off after 1 week. I re attended and again new veneers were fitted, but now one of the teeth( my upper right 1 ) has broken off with only about 3 mm left protruding from the gum why has this happened and can i get it fixed without one of those gum plate things? also should i have to pay more????
