my dentist has identified a cavity to the root at the rear and recommended a root canal filling before fitting veneer
Q. I am considering 3 veneers to improve chipped and ugly front teeth. On the lateral incisor my dentist has identified a cavity to the root at the rear and recommended a root canal filling before fitting veneer, as he said it could lead to future problems – abscess etc. The tooth does not give me any pain and I am slightly concerned about the implications of root canal filling, weakening the tooth etc. Do you think the dentist is correct?
A. This is difficult for me to tell without seeing you or an x-ray of the tooth. However, as a general rule, if there is any doubt over the condition of the root, it is better to root treat the tooth prior to completing a crown or veneer
